A few questions, Toon Town Trivia, What was it like?
View Single PostView Single Post

Since our family started Toon Town back In April and I started in May 2005, we we thinking back about some stuff and the kids and I had some questions to those who have been playing much longer. Here they are:

1- Was there a Merry Go Round? I heard there was, saw pictures, but where was it? Could you ride on it?

2- What was the method you used to get 6 gag tracks and stay under 50 laff to make an original Uber?

3- When did they introduce fishing, was it harder, easier or same to get 70 fish? Could you actually give fish to someone else?

4- What was it like before the Factory got downgraded. I heard it was way harder, how? Higher level cogs? Tougher obstacles like the goons and paint mixer rooms?

5- How did people figure out how to finally beat the CFO, was it trial and error, tracking posts on test?
Was it harder to stomp and throw goons? Did it get downgraded also once it hit open?
My kids and I are both excited and apprehensive about LawBot because we don't know many test toons who seem to be very knowledgeable about stuff on test. We may wait till the hubbub dies down.

6- Does the ghost glitch still work, where you can pass through walls or even into the VP under-carriage? I haven't done it in eons and haven't tried it. I ask my kids not to glitch unless they are with me and friends.
They seem to be much better at all that glitching stuff.

7- When were doddles introduced? Before doddles in battle, what was the reason for training them?

I'm sure there are other questions, but my kids have been asking me and dear old dad doesn't want to be a complete dufuss.

Thx in advance - LST

A few real quick from me and Brady..

1- Was there a Merry Go Round? I heard there was, saw pictures, but where was it? Could you ride on it?
Before my time and I have been on TT for 4 years this Oct.

2- What was the method you used to get 6 gag tracks and stay under 50 laff to make an original Uber?

- This was done by being a good shopper for task. You would do all possible task for tracks before mandantory vists and Laff was always your last choice. Before they fixed the bug their were quite a few mandantory laff task that you could skip all together.

4- What was it like before the Factory got downgraded. I heard it was way harder, how? Higher level cogs? Tougher obstacles like the goons and paint mixer rooms?

Before they downgrade the factory the cogs were a lot higher. The boss in the factory was an 11 if I remember correctly. Also the goons on the catwalks and the ones roaming around in the warehouse took out a LOT more laff if you got hit.

-It took a lot of practice and going sad more times than I could count lol! It was fun though!! One of the best things that they fixed was to make the toonup reward in the crane bigger. For the longest time all that we had was ice cream cones talk about certain death once the big goos came out! And TTC was a valuable tool for getting pointers for how to win. It would be great if we could do the same here to help each other out!

Pink, Dr Skids
WOW 4yrs on TT. Makes me feel like the rookie that I am. Seriously, thanks for the history.
So the merry go round may be an urban/toon town myth, or something very very early.

Did you train doddles (get tricks in your cattlelog) before the doddle on battle thing?
I can't remember, though I think doddles in battle is less than a year old and I think I had tricks but had such early cattlelogs and almost zero interest in doddles at first. Did the doddle trick only heal you at home? That is my best guess

I could imagine the difficulty in the CFO with only ice cream cone treasures and factory solos must have been almost unheard of before the "fixes". Heard the goons did some major damage. Hopefully I can save up some for fun toon tasks to heal quickly or get my dumb (but ever so sweet) test doddle to do some tricks.

Thanks for the reply! Hope to see ya!

I believe there was a pic posted somewhere on TTC of the merry-go-round. But pics hosted on site were lost in the upgrade so it probably isn't there anymore and the person who posted it is not active anymore as far as I know. But it was no myth. He posted lots of interesting pics from way back, one day!

I can answer a couple for you.

Yes there was a Merry go round. It was the the HQ. It went round and round. Once they added the fishing pond, bye bye Merry go round.

Doodles showed up in Aug. of 2004. Flippy lost his doodle Fluffy and when he found it, it brought lots of friends with it. So Pet shops sprung up and adopt a doodle started. Doodles always healed you when they did tricks. I would go to my estate for a quick toon up after saduality. Dance was always my choice since it healed 10 points. Could be why my doodles are further along on that trick training than the other commands.

When I started we had 50 fish. They then added 20 new species of fish to reach 70. That was in July of 04. The ultra rare fish have always been tough to catch.

Pink answered most of the other stuff......as for the ghost glitch, my son still ends up in the VP undercarriage. Don't know how he does it. He got stuck in there once and couldn't get out until the VP moved off of him.

Silly Goopy is not nearly as old as Pinkersmirk but he still remembers the old factory. It used to be tougher than a 5 sty Brrrgh building and slightly easier than a 5 sty DDL one. It was a real accomplishment for 4 Brrrgh level toons to do even a short run and very difficult if not impossible for 4 Daisy Garden toons (if they dare try).

Zippy
The only way I have ended up in the VP was to let him run me over. Way back, you could actually pie him and stun from inside after he ran you over. That seemed like more of a "cheat", so the devs fixed that I guess. The ghost glitch has always been something that my kids could do, but I never got the hang of it. I recall reading about some toons who did ghost and walk in battle who wrecked havoc in the VP. Wasn't my cup o' tea I guess, but I can't deny I was curious.

Oh ohh, one more, how do you float in the air in DDL PG and float/emote after the VP victory.
I remember Silly Salty (where is that guy), floating HIGH in the air above DDL after one of Loopy's awesome Girls/Guys event. I haven't seen it since. I also saw a toon on top of the CFO once before. How'd they do that?
It was really funny seeing him tease the CFO before the battle.

Some one put out an APB for Ryan. (Panchos hanging with Galloshes?). I know he is a wealth of info and glitch master extraordinaire!

1. The Merry-Go-Round was awesome and a lot of fun. They removed it to make room for the fishing pond.

2. I'm sure someone answered this alreaady. I was the next to last person I know of to complete the tasks to get a 6 gag toon that could stay under 50 laff. Milky was the combined effort that took 3 days to complete and he got his final gag track training from LOM about an hour before the update that took away the ability to skip laff tasks.

3. In the beginning you could only get 50 fish (I think). Later they added more fish and it was just as hard or harder to get all of them then as it is now. In fact....I wonder if it weren't for many many letters to them about the impossibility of finding the Old King Crab if we'd ever seen him.

4. I'm sure this has been answered. I liked the old factory. In fact, the reason Joby is just now gathering his lvl 12 merits is he's been on strike for a year in protest of the down-graded version. Didn't do any good LOL!

5. Seemed much harder...impossible. Only ice cream for toonup. Disney eventually made him beatable. The mints have not been downgraded...well, except they did make the paint room and the big gear room easier to navigate. In the beginning, many a toon lost their laff in the green goo. I am also apprehensive about Lawbot and whether they will downsize the mints.

6. Don't know

7. I don't exactly remember when they brought on the doodles....before CBHQ (I think) ...while they were trying to add new content to keep gamers happy. I'm not sure we knew their ability to heal would increase for quite some time. However, I like having a nice bunch of doodles for quick healing of my toons.

I've been playing for 3 years this month. There have been tons of changes. Some I like, some I don't care much for.

1. Yes, there was a merry go round. The HQ in Minnie's Melodyland sat in the center of it, and it spun slowly, and played different notes when you walked on it. They took it out when they put the fishing pond in.

2. Very good task shopping as Pinkersmirk mentioned.

3. Fishing has always STUNK! It actually used to be impossible to catch all 70 fish. Several fish were just a plain old mystery to everyone, even the most serious fisher toons. You have never been able to "donate" fish to other toons.

4. Everything in Sell HQ used to be at least 2 points higher than it is now, from the cogs around the pit to all the ones in the factory, and yes, those goons used to do between 10 and 20 damage. I remember dying a few times in there when it came out too!

5. Total trial and error. We tested and tested, and then tested some more. In addition to not having ANY information about how to win, there were the frequent disconnects that seem to accompany any major update on test. So, just when we would think "By George, I think we've got it!", POOF, and we would all be searching for our contacts, back in the playground. Everyday, Disney would "tweak" some part of the battle, changing things little by little, until it finally became a doable battle. Most everyone on test was THRILLED when the first group finally won. We knew there actually was a way to do it.

6. I have no idea on this one.

7. Training doodles was just a way to get healed after battles.

Hope this helps,
Skip Wink

Yay...I question that I can actually answer! I don't know how to do the float thingie, but Ryan has been busy playing some other game Crying or Very sad

Saw him on last night and did a few 4 toon CFOs with him....my guess is we will be seeing alot of him as soon as LBHQ comes out on open.

Let quickly add about the Merry-go-round. It was in the center of MM just beyond the little fence which we used to not be able to jump over. Jumping came with SBHQ. Anyway, the toon HQ sat in the middle of the notes and it turned slowly EXCEPT you could get it to turn very fast by running on it or having a lot of toons on it. There was some way... I didn't explore it much but it was neat to go around and around or see how fast you could get it going.

Some of the first new content I remember being added was the estates. Before estates and JB banks, getting jb's for gags was a calculated, often painful effort. And...we used to stand on the trolley to go play games. And fishing required that you use your mouse to actually reel in the fish. And I'm sure many of you remember when you could only sell fish in the pg's. Now...talk about painful! Fishing on the streets was impossible without a bud.

About glitching:

I'm as from a computer expert as you can get. "Honey, where's the on button for this thing?"

In my naivite this is what I'm noticing. The people that I know who have purchased better computers are no longer able to glitch the mint big gear room or the factory warehouse wall so they must take the time to run the puzzles and step on goon smashing switches. It's not that they don't know the glitches, their old computers that ran slower performed them excellently. The f9 key slows the computer so glitching is sometimes possible. The same is true for the ghost glitch. I have a friend who has told me that the fix in an update back quite a while made it more difficult but not impossible. He could still do it by adding the print screen key to the other keys of the system to trick the computer into the ghost mode. I've tried it on my slowest computer and I have had no success. There's not a motivation for it since surviving new players on a team in the skells (ghost mode was of no effect here) is so much harder than surviving the pie throwing part.

I'm excited to learn what new glitches law HQ will hold. I'm grateful to those computer experts amongst us who will head out to find all the short cuts and then clue in the dufuses like me.

Loopy,
If you get a chance ask him (Silly Salty), to describe how to do the floating in the air over DDL thingie.
More importantly, tell him we all said HOWDY-DOO!!
I know I saw a recent post where he and Rach were still playing their twin toons, (Panco/Galloshes ~ 54 laff VP'ers). I think he hasn't completely lost interest. That guy rocks the CFO, man is he good on the crane! And.. I think it was him I saw on top of the CFO once.

It was nice hearing that he is still playing now and then.

WoW!! talk about nostagia! I remember. My friend says I suffer from the " I remember when I was a young toon " before everything was made easier. I remember all the merits in SBHQ every single time. There was no working your way up to 5500. It was that way every time. I remember when SBHQ came out. I was dial up at the time and I would have to reboot after every factory or I would disconnect. I still have my TT newsletters with the 20 new species introduced on it. Before they fixed it you couldn't catch all 50. OKC wasn't catchable. I believe Dizzy was the first to catch all 50, not sure tho. So many memories, Heehee

Old sellbot factory to the best of my memory:

Main entrance - two level 4s and a 6
Side room that I can never remember the name - two level 6 skelecogs and a level 7
Boiler room - 5 6 and 7 cog
Pipe room - two sets of two level 5 and one level 6 skelecogs
Side entrance - level 4 5 and 6 cogs
oil room - 5 6 and 7 I think
warehouse - 5 5 6 and 7
two silos - 7 8 and 9
center silo - 8 9 9 and 11 foreman

Yes, it was possible to solo the factory, although it was easier to solo on a soundless or toonupless toon than WITH sound/toonup, and it was simply impossible to solo without lure. When soloing, you had to plan very carefully when to go back for gags to the gag restocks, and often if you got to center you found yourself with no large gags left and dangerously low laff. I solo'd the factory many times (pre-doodles even!) but often would teleport out after doing the last silo, which was good for about 500 merits. You see, you earned merits after each battle, rather than at the end of the whole thing. We used to stop and check our merit progress in the middle of the factory!! I would rarely finish the foreman battle, because it simply wasn't worth wasting a flippy card for 3 or 4 cogs (or about 50 merits).

Speaking of doodles, I was on hiatus when they came out, so when I came back I was able to buy quite a few doodle tricks right away (it used to be that even if you didn't sign on, you got the next cattlelog in the series - so if you took several weeks off you could do a bunch of shopping on back order that you had never been really offered before). While most of us would save our tasks to turn in after a VP battle (because most of us couldn't make it out of a VP battle with healthy laff back then!), I would go home and doodle and be back at the factory quite quickly. I noticed pretty quickly that speak tooned me up quicker, but my favorite was always play dead. My doodles became pretty popular for a little while, because I had 5 DDL doodles and a TTC doodle at my estate that were almost NEVER hungry. It got to be a regular occurrence for people to just follow me to my house to doodle after the VP. Imagine my surprise, when the doodles FINALLY got progress bars, to find that my doodles were only on their first bar still! For how much I used my doodles before the progress bars, I STILL insist that they should have had more experience, but oh well.

As for the merry-go-round, I may be one of the only surviving toons who is GLAD to see that thing gone! Whenever I Was working MM, I would gladly TP to TTC to go turn in tasks and have to run back than to have to bear that thing. It would make me so nauseated it was unbearable. But then again, IRL I can't stand going on rides that go in circles, so...

As for fishing, the jellybeans required for the gold rod were so painfully high when it first came out, you could actually go broke fishing. I remember turning in tasks and riding the trolley to get more beans to be able to fish in MM. More often, I would do two or three buckets in the Brrgh in order to fill my carry jar back up, then tp to MM to do a bucket, then go back to the Brrgh to earn beans again. I actually had two maxed toons with the gold rod who were broke more often than not, shopping around for generic cog tasks that were worth more beans so that I could fish a few more buckets. I can't remember what it cost per cast, but IIRC it was 12 beans? But, it was EVER so better than that stupid "spin the mouse in circles to reel the fish in but don't go to fast or two slow or you will lose the fish" thing that it was before that!

Ok, enough babbling from me.

Two things I remember:

Doodles didn't have the training window before they could come into battle, so like was said they were only used when you went home for a quick way to heal yourself.

About the ghost glitch: it still does a glitch, if you take the same steps as you used to, however instead of the ghost glitch it does a strange thing to your emotions. You will be able to do your emotions while moving, well, only when you are moving. It is quite a fun trick, especially with the belly flop one, cause it looks like you are sliding! Smile

Wow, this has been an interesting topic to read! Isabella, a/k/a "toony", discovered ToonTown b/c of her little best friend next door, Mikey this past Sept. She bugged me until I let her try the free trial, and then bugged me until I let her join. Then she bugged me until I got my own toon. Now I play more than she does! lol We are definitely newbies here!

I'm glad that they have made a lot of these changes. Now if they would just add something like a Doodle House that I can spend my jelly beans decorating! I keep buying my kids' things b/c I have too many jellybeans. Well, Blubbersnooker has too many jellybeans... poor Jr. never has enough. lol

I'm definitely glad that they made the mints easier. Poor Blubbersnooker died the first time in that goo... and that is an easy jump now!

With that being said ... There were several ways of running the Sellbot factory and earning different amounts...If you needed alot of merits then a route that was popular was getting up to the silos asap then going back down to kill the other sets. The silos were big merit amounts and anything that followed them was a larger total count.... trying to relay to strangers that you wanted to kill silos and then go back down to kill the rest was always a challenge but it was done.

Great Post LST makes us all remember how far we have come in our Toontown worlds ...
To me doodles are still so fresh!
