What's in a Name?
View Single PostView Single Post

TT's intricate name approval process is something beyond my understanding! other11

Since Freda D. Dark now needs lots of bucks/merits/notices I decided it's time for a new toon so I can play it when I have no friends online. I made one about 3 weeks ago. And I've been trying to name it ever since. My first choice for the name was rejected 12 times in a row, but my friend has similar name for her test toon. I tried deleting a toon and starting all over again. Nope, rejected again. Go figure!

My second and third choices were rejected after few tries too. And finally my last choice for the name instantly gives me the message that the name chosen is not going to work. I tried different spelling of the same name, still get the same message. Yesterday I was telling my friend about my troubles. The name I was trying to tell her won't show on her screen, had to IM it to her. She was playing two toons, so she tried saying this name in parts and see if it shows on another screen. Every part of the name was showing except letter 'B'. The name I picked for my toon has initial 'B'. It appears that Toontown filters freestanding letter 'B', uppercase or lowercase. WHY?!? I cannot figure that one out! English is not my first or even second language, maybe I'm not understanding something. From my college years back home I have plenty of dictionaries left, including Dictionary of American Slang (needed it at one time for the linguistics project) where you can find pretty much all taboo words and words/phrases with double meaning. There is no entry for letter 'B', and there are entries for many other letters - 'A', 'G', 'H', 'Q', etc. What is wrong with the letter 'B'? dontknow

Grrrr! Now I'm back to trying to approve yet another name crossfingers2 Last Thursday I made 4 toons trying to approve all diffirent names, all 4 are pending approval since Thursday. Wish me luck!

B is sometimes used as a shortened version of certain swear/cuss words. I guess they are being careful....

Good Luck with your new toons.

Would "Bea" or "Bee" work? Hubby and I have had a hard time getting a name approved for a tall monkey he made. We've tried:

Bigfoot (3x rejected)
A. Gene Mutation
Yves O. Lucien
Xenu (I guess they Googled this one before rejecting, lol)
Xemu (ditto)
and now trying Bigfoot again

Someone told me that after a certain point they stop letting you submit your own name for a toon.

Even for those of us who's native language is english the name approvals and rejections appear to be somewhat random, I've been trying to get a name thru with various permutations for several weeks now and have no idea what the problem is. fingers-crossed

I tried tons and tons of names for my now named Cup O'Tea duck. Someone finally told me that anything that might sound foreign gets rejected... so there went any of my Latte or Venti names, even w/ various spellings. I finalyl decided that someone at TT doesn't like coffee, so I went for tea, and voila. Good luck naming your toon!

Ya know, not long ago I made a toon in open and tried to call her Iota B. Cleaning. FAILED! So after much thought I ended up dropping the 'ing' and she is now Iota Clean. Can you manipulate your attempted name in such a way to get rid of that 'B'? It wasnt exactly my first choice but close enough! Good luck!

Thanks for the ideas! I've submitted a name using 'Bee' instead of 'B', not the same but close enough! Now I have 5 names pending approval LOL TT name screening department (if there is one) is probably hating me. I made 5 identical toons, the one whose name gets approved 1st is a keeper. Not sure if it's true, but I heard that after certain amount of tries you are no longer permitted to use custom name for a toon. Don't want to start playing a toon and be stuck being called Bright Red Cat forever Laughing
