Game disconnections at transitions...
View Single PostView Single Post

Past couple of days I seem to be disconnecting alot when I'm doing transitions. TPing from somewhere to a Playground, going from a playground to a street, etc.

Is this because of how busy it is right now, or could I be experiencing a new connectivity issue here at home? Other online games aren't doing this, so I've been assuming it's TT.

Anyone else experiencing this?

I have that problem when I am in California. I think it is just the connection there for me... When I report an error Toon Town tells me that I need an upgrade on my router. So, that's an idea to try...

Hi there!

I had the exact same problem last week and disney's suggestion was to update direct x even though I had the latest version. Supposedly parts of it can and I suppose did, become corrupted or missing after a tt update was done. I reinstalled the latest version and haven't had a problem going thru tunnels or doors or tping since.

Hope this helps.

Caroline

Two things from my experience

Our old cable modem was dropping packets. Comcast replaced it for free after coming and testing it. That fixed a bunch of my disco problems right after law was released to test.

While their, they demonstrated that my computers running through the wireless connection were connecting slower than the ones hardwired in to the router. Additionally, the wireless connections seem to have a pecking order. The (wireless) Mac takes precedence over the (wireless) laptop which takes precedence over the (wireless) desktop, so to play TT on my desktop, I have to stop most internet activity on the other two.

Lady G - You know that thing where sometimes fac doors don't appear open to me? That's when the Mac is downloading from the internet and I try to play TT on the desktop.

G'Luck with your new toys and configurations!

The saga continues.

I was continuing to have disconnection problems.

My set up before:
4 Desktop Windows XP machines wired into a 4 port router (Linksys BEFSR41)

My set up after:
4 Desktop Windows XP machine wired into a 4 port router with a wireless access point. (Linksys WRT54G)
1 Laptop Windows XP machine using the wireless access point.

After disconnecting trying to go to the CFO on Sunday night after trying a suggestion from the router manufacturer, I'd had it. I switched back to my old router on Monday and had no problems, no disconnects. Humph!

Why in the heck would a newer router not perform as well as the old one! But something is definitely up with it. I've e-mailed the router manufacturer again and I'm going to see what the default settings are for both routers and compare.

I want my laptop online again, it was so much fun being able to use it anywhere in the house!

Ah well,
Anna

Lady G,

Try this:
go to your router setup (http://192.168.1.1), enter your password, and you should see the main screen. Find the "Port Triggering" page (mine is under the "Applications and Gaming" tab).

Add 2 entries:

Code:
Code:
            | Triggered Rng|Forwarded Rng|
Application | Start | End  |Start | End  | Enabled
   TTown1   | 6112  | 6112 | 6112 | 6112 | (check)
   TTown2   | 6667  | 6667 | 6667 | 6667 | (check)

(don't forget to hit "save") Smile

...and the problem should just disappear!

Good luck!

Actually the router company was nice enough to send me detailed instructions for doing what they hope would resolve the problem.

Me being the lazy person I am put back my old router (since it works great) and haven't yet been motivated enough to put back the new one and try their stuff.

I'll print this out too for when I actually get motivated enough to try again. It's tough because particularly on the weekends I do a long session of play early in the AM. By the time I sign off, the kids are on and so it's hard to boot them to do this work. Ugh, I'm going to have to bite the bullet and just do it!

Thanks!
Anna
