I was wondering if anyone else has problems getting names accepted for new toons. I wanted to name my toon Scarlet O Hare and tried every version of the name I could think of. Each one was rejected. I thought maybe it was a trademark issue, but then I saw a Ratt Butler running around. I then tried naming my toon Stacibug, which is a nickname I've had since I was a baby. It was rejected too. I was so annoyed that I submitted Name Rejected, but it was denied as well. After polling everyone at work, I tried again with Bunnicula, which was eventually accepted. WOO HOO! It was a big hassle and took almost a week to come up with a name that I liked that was deemed acceptable by the name police. Are there any guidelines for names somewhere that I've missed? I read the FAQ's and TT guides from several sites and didn't see anything.

Check out some other postings on TTF. Several members have been having trouble with toon names being rejected and taken away. Frustrating!! Disney's on a power kick!

LOL I live it!
This is pure speculation on my part........
I think there is a word recognition program it runs through. Some names are on the recognized list and get acepted right away. Others are not, and must be approved by a real live person. This person happens to be a low paid retired nun who will reject anything that she even THINKS might be less than appropriate for a Disney character. However, since she is an older lady, there are lots of newer words that she does not know and they slip through. Half words and abbreviated spellings are completely lost on her and she rejects them on sight. Upon resubmission of the same name several times she will finally consult the 19 year old geek in the cubicle next to her, who will laff and tell her what means. (he can only be trusted if his WoW mission is going well) This process can take several weeks. And many a toon have been known to max their gags known only as "Light Blue Mouse" I know, it's hard to make friends as "brown Horse" but good luck with your names, and here is my final advice.... if the name is truly not offensive, resubmit and resubmit again until she gets the guy next door to ok it.

They do have guidelines, which they will send you if you ask. I think they're available on the TT site too.
They are VERY unclear, though. Most names I have had rejected are not prohibited in any way, shape or form. Nor should the names that you have told us! Then again you see names that ARE CLEARLY forbidden, including the ones used as examples (!!!) freely running the streets of ToonTown. There is NO figuring out their name system, and now that they are yanking away previously approved names, there are none safe anymore.

Here are the guidlines.
note the last line (I think they may be looking for bribes):
Disney reserves the right to deny any name for any reason at our discretion.

I have had that happen MANY times! I have been rejected for the "tooniest" names (ex. Sir LaughsAlot has been rejected)

My recommendation is to keep trying. It took me around 25 tries to get Dark Matter approved, and No Brainer and General Nonsense were also rejected several times before being accepted.
For Sir LaughsAlot, you might try doing Sir Laughsalot or Sir Laughs-alot since they 'say' they don't allow mixed case in names (although I have seen it!) They definitely are not consistent in applying their rules.

Yep, I tried every which way to get my Cafe Au Lait or Latte Or Van Illa Latte approved... well, you get the ghist. I finally decided that Disney does not approve of coffee, so my little baby toon is named "Cup O'Tea." LOL! It boggles the mind when I've done mints w/ two toons named "Kama" and "Sutra." rofl!

Actually Kama and Sutra are both now "Toon". Sutra was on my list for a while. They supposedly lost their names while they were online doing a VP together. Speaking of risque names, I ran across this one in sell hq the other night.

OK, I finally got a reply from TT, and it almost seems to be a real reply rather than a canned one (although I accept that they may have 57 different versions of the canned one - a letter for every occasion, wOOt!)
According to this letter, the problem with the name "Cog Slayer" appears to be with the word "Cog", NOT the word "Slayer" as we surmised. Did you know that "Cog" is a recognizable character name in ToonTown? Yes! THIS is the whole problem with the name. Who'da thunkit?
I plan to write ol' Avery back and remind him (or her) that if "Cog" is rejected as a recognizable TT name, how much MORE so is the word TOON, and it offends me! Hmmm...maybe not just yet. I would hate for him/her to remove my naming rights altogether. All in good time, dear Avery.
Does this seem right to anyone? Saying the word "Slayer" is the problem makes ever so much more sense. *LadyZ is confused*
An actual excerpt from their response:
| ToonTown Naming Nazi : |
Please keep in mind, that the name you chose may not have been
offensive, but it is not only offensive names that are not allowed in
Toontown. Please report names that are not just offensive, but that
violate our other guidelines. Some examples are any names that have the
word "Cog" in it, or any recognizable character names we missed. Please
refer to the naming guidelines for further details. |
This boggles my mind. How does one "MISS" a recognizable ToonTown character name? One would have to be quite drunk, it would seem, or perhaps completely illiterate. Either of those things, or perhaps the likeliest of all: they accept them with a chortle on their lips, eagerly awaiting the day when the name nazi in the next cubicle will "discover" their gaffe. *SCORE*!! We tick off another long time customer. Bet they are addicted enough to suck it up and keep paying!

That does NOT make sense at all.... I would have thought it was the "slayer" part they would object to, which is silly enough.... okay perhaps an*l.... (keeping it "E" for EVERYONE...) enough in itself.... There are PLENTY of toons running around with COG in their names and OUTRIGHT names of toons in TT.... Flippy is one that comes to mind..... Then there are names like Bear Nay Kid, who I did a building with, (Have to be honest... we were half way through the building when it dawned on me LOL). Personally, I chuckle when someone has past one by the Name Nazi's, but I just don't get how they are going back on names that were approved and yanking them after a year or so. (What happened to the Grandfather clause?) Guess it doesn't apply in Toontown!
..... So does this mean Toon A. Hotdish isn't going to be approved? (BTW, Hotdish is what us folks in Minnesota call a casserole LOL)

I do know a couple of things about Disney's name game. It does run through a filter of sorts and I suspect it's the same one that's used on a game site I play. Run all the letters of your toon name together and see if combined they spell a 'dirty' word. Our english bulldog's name is Sassy. We call her Sassy Bear. So naturally when bears came out...Disney's problem with Sassy is the 3 middle letters. My brother finally got it approved as Sas E Bear. I wanted a monkey called Chit Monkey. Chit means a kid or 'saucy young woman'. Even after pointing this out to the online rep and linking her to dictionary.com, it still wouldn't go because it's a variation on S***. Phoenitics is also a part of it, even Sazzy Bear wouldn't go. I also think they've added a list of literary names. Bunnicula may be in jeopardy as it's a book. I also think there may be a limit as to how many times a name or variation can be used. We wanted a set of 3 ducks named Da Big Brat, Da Lil Brat, and Da Baby Brat. No matter how many times we tried, we couldn't get Da Baby Brat to go. She became Justa Baby Duck. Some friends of ours also tried brat names to no avail. Some do get thru; I saw a horse the other day called Fu Kit.

What kills me about this is that they some of the same names that they will not approve as toons names are name choices for doodles. You couldn't get Sassy approved, yet one of my doodles is named Sassy. I tried to get Tantrum approved for my dog at least a dozen times, but no go. Yet Hissys doodle is named Tantrum.
