Oklahoma in July
View Single PostView Single Post

You Know You are In Oklahoma In July When.......

The birds have to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground.

The trees are whistling for the dogs.

The best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.

Hot water now comes out of both taps.

You can make sun tea instantly.

You learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron.

The temperature drops below 95 and you feel a little chilly.

You discover that in July it only takes 2 fingers to steer your car.

You discover that you can get sunburned through your car window.

You actually burn your hand opening the car door.

You break into a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 a.m.

Your biggest bicycle wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death?"

You realize that asphalt has a liquid state.

The potatoes cook underground, so all you have to do is pull one out and add butter, salt and pepper.

Farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying boiled eggs.

The cows are giving evaporated milk.

What's it like where you are right now?

Well, it HAS been a bit warm in Ohio. But, nothing like I remember from when I lived in Dallas.
After I had first moved there, I remember getting into my car one day as the summer heat increased. It was a stick shift. When I went to put the car into the gear, I felt like that German in the first Indiana Jones movie!! I thought I was going to have R, 1, 2, 3, 4 branded into my palm Smile

But, I never did get to ride in the Hotter Than H*** Hundred in Oklahoma even though I tried to train for it!

Yup, we are frying here in Tulsa. Last week we had 3 consecutive days at 110+! Lovely! Then last Friday it fell to 95 and we spent the whole day outside enjoying the nice cool temperature, ROFL! Seriously, we even had a picnic that day. This week has been bearable, ranging from 98-105. I feel so bad for the people who are working out in this everyday, like the construction workers. I don't see how they do it. I love your list Jerri, the 3rd one about parking spaces is soooo true, lol. sun

In our old house the water pipes ran through the attic. In the summer I didn't need a drop of hot water for a shower - just turn on the cold and it's nice and warm and good to go! Shocked

I remember picking up the kids from a birthday party once and they all got helium balloons. As we got into the car the balloons brushed up against the hot metal and POP!! Crying or Very sad

Here it's not so much the heat as the humidity. Ugh! I can't stand the sticky feeling! I've been in Arizona in 110 degree weather and honestly I much preferred that (as long as I had a bottle of water at all time). Plus, my hair isn't frizzy over there!! Cool

Here, that may help, since I know you aren't moving to AZ any time soon! Razz

I remember crawling into the back seat of the old station wagon, onto the vinyl, and getting the backs of my thighs burned! YIKES!

I used to spend about 3 months a year in Vegas...talk about toasty! You had to always cover up the carseats when you left the car or you'd burn your kids when you got back in! I'd always start the car and let it run for at least 5 minutes before we got in, otherwise it was unbearable! Nevermind trying to wash your car...it was dry before you pulled out of the bay! One time I flew from Atlanta to Vegas...Atlanta was about 98 with 100% humidity and Vegas was 110...I'd have to say it was worse in Atlanta!

We're supposed to be in the 100's here in SD (South Dakota, not San Diego Wink )again this weekend. We've had a drought for years here though, green lawns? Yeah right! We can water by hand once a week and that's it, no sprinklers allowed. I've been in Oklahoma...there's a reason that general area is called the dust bowl! Whew! Shocked

My brother in law refuses to move to Florida because it's hotter than in Memphis? NOT!!! At least we get a sea breeze and after noon showers to cool us off. Orlando is another story - it's hotter there than on the west coast of FL.

Lady Z I thought my hair was naturally frizzzy until I moved west!! Oh did I love my hair when I lived in CA.

Do you need a hairbrush, too? JAJA!

It's the same here in SC. Columbia, which is in the middle of the state, tends to be hotter than the Charleston area since it gets NO ocean breeze. At least we have something...

Good thing you never went to ride in the race because you would have been lost. The HHH is not Oklahoma...HAHA!

For the last 24 years that race has been in Texas.

With no air conditioning here in Michigan, my living room today got up to 87. We have 3 fans just in the living room alone, but you still feel sticky hot. The humity is high, my contacts keep fogging up, gets hard to read these posts... It helps that we have a pool, we can dip in, dip out, then sit in front of a fan...LOL, does that sound like the life or what?!?
