I know my router is causing problems, hubby (the computer genius) has confirmed it. If Comp USA was open at midnight, I'd be there now buying another dang router. I missed out on TWO CCG VP runs today because I kept getting booted - ugh!!!!

So, does anyone else here successfully use wireless internet to play TT? What kind of router do you have that you are not constantly booted? I've literally been booted close to 20 times today. Yes, I'm addicted, I keep coming back for more lol.

Did my big head scare the router?

Yep, we play wireless very successfully most times. But, every so often our Linksys wireless usb adapter goes bad and we have to replace it. We were replacing the adapter every 6 months or so, but now we have a bit more expensive one...maybe $129. (The other ones were about $39)

We are actually having trouble on one of the less expensive ones now and the plan is to replace it with the new Linksys USB wireless adapter. The model number on it is WUSB300N, if that helps. It works great and has stopped the disconnecting, that was also like 30 times a day!

We did have trouble with our Router one time, but we have DSL through AT&T and they replaced it with another. It is a "2Wire" brand router. Usually our problems are with the USB adapters though, we have replaced them all at least once.

I do play TT on my second pc, which is connected wirelessly. Never had a problem. Well, except when someone would use the microwave, the connection would drop. lol But I fixed by changing the channel number the router uses to broadcast the signal. No more interruptions after that.

I am using a AirLink+ 802.11G router which broadcasts on mode G and B!

Less expensive than the LinkSys I am sure. LinkSys is name brand and top of the line equipment.

Thanks for your help... I wonder if maybe it is the wireless thingamajiggy that's in my laptop? It's built in, so no need for adapters. Maybe the thingamajiggy isn't working so well after 2 years (and Lord knows it's been used quite well in those two years).

I agree, we had nothing but trouble with Linksys. I don't know what we have now but we couldn't find 3com. What we have now works great but we have to use an ethernet cable to stay on TT....well, we got the cable while on Linksys. I don't know if it would work without now, but we have no reason to check it out.

But the head scares me......Mommy.......

(Shrug) I have a Linksys and have been using it for over 3 years. No problems at all and it's being used for 2 computers. (router thingy in kitchen. Laptop in livingroom and desktop in another room that doesn't have a phone jack) I've played TT on nothing but my laptop since I started and that has always been wireless.

I too use wireless, I started out with a U.S. Robotics and lost connection 20 to 30 times a day, only while trying to play Toontown. Replaced the Cable Modem and then the wireless router. I now run a Linksys with two laptops on wireless and one laptop wired and have no problems with all three running Toontown.

I ran wireless for about 8 months without any problems (Lynksys) then decided to hard wire our 3 PC's because I had put 2 PC's side by side (a girls just got to run two toons ya know) and the third was easy enough to connect to in the basement. So no matter what Disney says TT can be played perfectly fine on a wireless connection as long as your equipment is working well.

I use a Wireless-G LINKSYS 2.4GHz Broadband router. *shrugs* (That's what it says on top of it ). I did have 4 PC's hooked at once, but let my oldest son take his computer with him when he moved out, so now it is only 3 total. I run them with Comcast highspeed/broadband. I have been booted ONCE out of TT, during a run with people here and I was mortified! I have been having a lot of problems playing lately, but it is due to totally and completely freezing up and horrendous lag... not being booted out. I end up having to log out and reboot my computer.

I THINK I am doing everything I am supposed to to keep my computer running as efficiently as possible, but the last 2 nights I could hear the computer "running/working hard" while I was in a CJ and I began to lag terribly. When I got out of TT there was a window up saying I was low on virtual memory and it was automatically doing something to correct it? Ran disk cleanup, defragged, updated my drivers, made sure I had the most updated version of... Hmmm... *scatches head*... I don't remember with 2 hours sleep and only 1/2 cup of coffee in my system so far, but it was off of trouble shooting on TT. I went to microsoft windows and checked to make sure there were no updates. (Those things are supposed to run automatically, but I did it "just in case". Erased old TT pics in my PC, erased cookies, which caused more pain in the butt because it seemed now passwords weren't saved??? Rebooted, went to TT, played fine fishing and did a few buildings, went into CJ and same thing happened again. (That whole virtual memory thing).

My computer is only 2 years old and it says I have 92% space left. So I don't know what's going on and hate to get my hubby on here cuz he rearranges and does funky things to our computers.... Sorry,

So, I don't think it is the wireless LINKSYS router causing me trouble. Sorry to hear you are being booted repeatedly... I'd be pulling my hair out! Hope you get it figured out soon.

We have a wireless router also. Our desktop is connected via ethernet cable, then we have a wireless laptop, and my husband has his work laptop. I do find that lag is horrendous with the laptop in any boss battles. SO I usually only play with the laptop when I am fishing, doing buildings, facs, mints, etc... The router we have is a Linksys wrt54g with speed booster? I have experienced dropped connections and I have done the port triggering thing in the linksys setup (there is a post on ttc regarding the port triggering thing). Also I just updated Direct-X which I think Queen Thunderthud was trying to think of - something I found on tt tips. Another problem we have been having of late is spyware. This stuff gets onto your computer without your knowledge and slows everything down. I was having problems yesterday, did a spyware scan, got rid of the junk, went back to tt and had no more problems.

Good point about the spyware. Hubby did a scan on mine yesterday and found a bunch of crap and removed it. The ultimate test will be doing a CJ later - but I did notice a great improvement for what I DID do.

It's funny how people can have such different experiences with the same thing. I wouldn't use another Linksys if you paid me to (well, if you paid me enough, and I could replace it immediately ) Just because it works for one person doesn't mean it will work for others; there are also lemon units and I admit maybe I just got unlucky, but I am sure not gonna spend MY money to give them another chance. It's certainly worth trying a different one if you try all the obvious stuff first....and sometimes it really IS your drivers....

Personally I would try the ethernet cable before replacing the box. It made an immediate difference to us. We had tried resetting all the ports or whatever (got detailed instructions from both TT and Linksys) and doing all the above suggestions such as clearing cookies, adware, etc. Until the box totally went south we had no more disco problems. Yeah, I know many people play successfully on wireless but I can promise you from my own experience that some can not!

My computer is a desktop hardwired with DSL, Mike uses the wireless router for his laptop. Both computers are HPs and quite new. Funny thing is, the laptop doesn't have any of the lag issues that I have with my desktop. Go figure!

Finally!!! A post I can really respond to.

We have had our wireless router for 4 years now and have ironed out all the problems. We have a generic Dell 1184 wireless router which I am sure is old school because of its age. Heather's computer is hardwired to the router and mine is wireless along with the girl's computers. Here are some of the lessons I have learned about a wireless network:

1. Never use a USB adaptor. They are very unreliable. This I know from experience and articles I have read on the internet.

2. You may want to get rid of your phones that use a 2.4 GHz signal. Your wireless network router transmits at the same frequency and the phones will "step" on the router's signal. I upgraded to 5.8 GHz phone system and a lot of the wireless network issues went away.

3. Get yourself a good wireless PCI card for each PC you want on the network. We have US Robotics cards in each of our PCs that cost in the neighborhood of $60.

4. Reset your network on occasion by following these steps:
Turn off you router and your modem (we have DSL) and wait for 10 seconds
Turn on your modem and wait for 10 seconds
Turn on your router and wait for 10 seconds
Check your internet connection via a browser - everything should work okay now.

We still have 802.11b router and it works fine. A 802.11g is better because of transmit/receive speeds but the real bottle neck is our DSL line. Unless you are doing massive amounts of filesharing amongst each computer, a "b" or a "g" router will suit your needs. I think there are other protocols that are available, but I would stick with a "b" or a "g" router.

Wireless router, I think thats mine is doing me wonders! Mine hasent gave me problems ever and its been 5 months. My brother has a wire and his is sometimes bad, but mostly really good. Sorry to hear that yours is doing a smelly job. Hope you get it all fixed up so you can play TT!

There are a variety of resources available on the internet to help you out. One of the websites I would recommend is:

This site has just about everything for electronics. Product reviews, recommendations, what to look for, etc. Very informative site.

Other resources like epinions.com or Consumer Reports are cute but lack the refinement and are not good sources for product reviews. The do however give you an insight into what is available and an overview of what to look for.

There is another protocol for wireless routers out there: 802.11a. I don't know much about this protocol, but it should be worth looking into since it is for broadband gaming (ie TT) with multiple players over the internet.

hmm...i have a linksys wireless router that I have had well over 4 years...no problem with disconnects Doesn't appear to impact the amount of lag i experience on toontown....but toontown's memory leak sure does

Hey Loopy Nickelgoose -- I saw you on and off so much last night I can only assume you still have not fixed your troubles. Thought you might like to update us on what you've tried and maybe we can offer more suggestions. Of course if you don't want to, never mind

One thing I suggest (pardon me if I said it already) is to file a bug report and ask them if you have all the latest updates. Sometimes it really IS your drivers I asked them that for each of my computers and got all fixed up within a day.
