Someone with more computer knowledge then I help me PLEASE.

When I go to the CFO I am unable to see the goons come out of the CFO. I can see them, but not walking around. This happens in about 95% of the runs I have been on the last couple of days.

I have a S3Graphics ProSavage Video Card and have updated the drivers from the S3 Graphics website yesterday but that did nothing to help. I know nothing about Video Cards and am sure there are better ones out there. This is the card that came with the computer and while not the best it has never given me a problem at all.

Here are a couple of screen shots to help explain what I see at the CFO.

BTW Brady and Lady Z I did not see a Tech Support thread so I put this here. Deal with it...HAHA!

Ouch! That is a rather serious glitch. Here's a couple questions that will give me a better understanding of the help you need:

  • Are you having problems in any other application/game?
  • When you talked about upgrading the drivers, were they the drivers directly from S3, or were they the open drivers available?
  • Do you want to see if the issue is correctable, or are you asking for help in finding a new graphics card that doesn't experience the same issues?
  • Do you know if your graphics card is on-board (directly soldered to the mother board) or an removable card?
  • If it is a removable card, do you know what kind of port it uses (i.e. pci, agp, pci-express)
  • How much memory is included on the card

I'll add any more questions as they come to me, but this will give me a good idea of what we're working with. Also, if you don't know how to find any of the above information let me know. I can walk you through how to find out Smile

Oh, I doubt I will lose any sleep over it. Smile (meaning, I can deal with it....tech support forum is a great idea though!)

Have you reported this to Disney? While they are famous for form letters, they can actually help. It might take a few tries, and make sure you don't ask them if they are all asleep or something. They helped us figure out our frequesnt disco problem awhile back, but it did take several reports and a couple of phone calls.

Note: Thanks Brady for making a tech support forum! Smile

I am having no problems anywhere else in the game. I can see the goons in the mint just fine. I see goons, cogs, gags and everything else with no problem. The only issue is the goons in the CFO.

They were from the S3 Graphics website so I am guessing they were directly from S3.

  • Do you want to see if the issue is correctable, or are you asking for help in finding a new graphics card that doesn't experience the same issues?
Unless Tonie would like a new graphics card for my computer for Christmas I need to fix the issue.

  • Do you know if your graphics card is on-board (directly soldered to the mother board) or an removable card?
    I do not know.

  • If it is a removable card, do you know what kind of port it uses (i.e. pci, agp, pci-express)
Ok. One rule here please....ENGLISH. SPEAK ENGLISH to me.

  • How much memory is included on the card
I think it is 32. Might be 16 but I think 32 is correct.

Thanks for setting up the Tech forum. I will post here often. Very Happy

I did report this Disney. I was very surprised when within 24 hours I received an email. They ask me to ran a DxDiag test and send them the results.

I forgot to say thanks to Sir Monty in my last post so THANKS Sir Monty for your reply.

Cool, hopefully you will get it all figured out. One other thing, we had to contact tech support for whatever was giving us the problem, they worked with TT to resolve the issue so you might try that. They could also tell you the ports etc, all the stuff you need to know -- maybe not in English but they will walk you through it holding your hand! Razz

Sir Monty ....I am hoping maybe you can answer a couple questions I have ...maybe Smile

Ok on my laptop I am having great difficulties with crashing in VP and other areas of the
game. I do mean crashing whole system shuts down ...I get the blue screen then shut down,
and when it does come back around and reboots itself I get a message stating my PC just experienced a
serious problem do I want to report it....

My question is this .... What is Open GL and how do I go about putting this setting on my video card
and do you feel this could or would have anything to do with crashing?

my dealeo here is this ......
GeForce FX Go 5700
AGP 4x
memory 128MB
Direct X version 9.0

Thank You

Scarey thing is I understood all of this non english stuff! Sir Monty McGrooven sounds like my computer friend who talked me through upgrading graphics and memory and if I can do it anyone can!

Zig did you try full screen? Something that was recommended with their new graphics is full screen. I contacted TT with the upgrade and they did recommend full screen. I myself don't like that option but tried it once and it did make a big difference!

Nothing like getting finished in HQ and having them change it. I suffered from flashes and lag with their upgrade. It seems to be working itself out now, although Goonies still TP on me sometimes from one side of the room to another Rolling Eyes

I only play in full screen. I do not like the window mode so I never use it.

I have even deleted TT from the computer and reinstalled it. Did not help.

Ok, but is ToonTown the only time that you experience any kind of display glitches? Do you play any other games (no one will think bad of this or they will have to deal with me Laughing), and if so, do they work ok?

  • Do you know if your graphics card is on-board (directly soldered to the mother board) or an removable card?
    I do not know.

Are you able to see the back of your computer? If so, where is the monitor plugged in? Is it in the same bank of ports that your keyboard and mouse plug in at or is it plugged into one of the expansion card slots (slots that generally run parallel to the floor. Those slots that aren't used have simple metal slats in place to close off the case to the outside world.

NOTE: The following questions are replied to below

  • If it is a removable card, do you know what kind of port it uses (i.e. pci, agp, pci-express)
Ok. One rule here please....ENGLISH. SPEAK ENGLISH to me.
That was english, albeit the techno-babble dialect, but still english.
  • How much memory is included on the card
I think it is 32. Might be 16 but I think 32 is correct.

The easiest way to find some of these answers is to check your original system specs. Who made your system (i.e. HP, Compaq, Gateway, Dell, Sony, etc.) and what is the model number of your computer (it will probably be listed somewhere on the front of the case, or in the manual that came with it. You saved that... right?)? Have you upgraded anything on the system (was the graphics card purchased after you already had the computer? I'm assuming no, but found it better to ask).

Jacee Lee, your video card is exactly like mine, and I've been having the same problems! I sent in the error reports and receive a message to update my drivers and a link to MS and NVidia. I've tried the links, went through the updating process, and get a message telling me I have no hardward compatible with the updates!! Shocked

Re: Sir Monty Sir

OpenGL is another graphics interface (basically think of it as a more standardized, non-operating system specific, robust version of DirectX). Since you are using a NVidia card it should already be setup on the card to use it (NVidia has offered better support for OpenGL than many other video card manufacturers).
Having OpenGL set on your video card should not really affect the game in any way, but I will offer a few insights on this...

  • Panda3D - the graphics engine created by Disney and used in the ToonTown Online game - defaults to using OpenGL as its rendering pipeline
  • Panda3D also only openly supports DirectX 8.0. This does not mean that they may have not been working on an in-house update for DirectX 9, but it has not officially been released for the engine. This may be one of the reasons why graphics issues are being experienced by some. As a side note, from a programmer's perspective there is a big difference between 8.0 and 9.0 of DirectX and programming for on and using the other may cause lots of problems.
  • Despite better support for OpenGL in the graphics engine, Disney in its infinite wisdom defaults to using DirectX, and recommends upgrading your graphics drivers to from the manufacturer whenever any noticable bug is experienced (even for one disconnect issue that I experienced, hmmm).
  • Most newer computers (circa 2002 and greater) ship with Windows XP which includes DirectX 9.0a or better. If you are running older DirectX 9.0 drivers I would recommend updating to the 9.0c drivers immediately since the updates fix many bugs in the core of the rendering pipeline. To find out what graphics drivers you have installed for DirectX, click on the [Start] button, then click on [Run], enter "dxdiag" into the run box (without the quotes), and click on [OK]. When the DirectX Diagnostics Tool opens up you can find the version on the bottom of the "System" tab.
  • You can setup ToonTown to use the OpenGL rendering pipeline (and just doing this has been known to correct some display issues).

As to the blue screen, I would have to know what it says to be able to properly determine what's causing the problem. What I would recommend, although not an optimal solution, is that next time you get slapped with the BSOD, write down the message it says (word for word if possible) and either post it or PM it to me.

I would be happy to show how to setup TT to use OpenGL, but I think that is already covered in the link provided by Lady Di. If you can't find it there or have any questions about setting it to OpenGL (or anything else for that matter) just let me know. Smile

Well heck thought we could have been on to something here and I would get to upgrade to Direct X 9.c
however this is what is on my pc as of now.

Ok I set up a profile in the advanced area of the video card properties and in the profile
I selected Open GL and then I choose this profile to be used.
PC says that the new setting were applied and so I believe I may have applied Open GL
I guess now I need to play some TT see what happens from here ..... If I were to crash I will word for word it
to you Sir Monty Sir ...You Rock thanks so mucho!

Is this where they sent you to upgrade your drivers? If so, the updates on this page don't include drivers for that particular card. It includes updates for every other FX 5700, but not the "Go" series. Matter of fact, I haven't noticed ANY updates for the GeForce FX Go 5700s.
