Consumer Info for Banned/Suspended Accounts
View Single PostView Single Post

As some of you already know, I had this information posted at That Other Disney Fansite, and was ordered to remove it. My thanks to Doctor Skids for allowing me to repost it here.
The BBB link takes you to the site covering complaints to the L.A. area, as WDIG is based in Burbank.

Wow...they made you remove it. They created a sticky for reporting those who have been "in trouble".

I recently had my account on hold, I found TT to be very reasonable with me. I had asked why in email form to them, and they responded within 24 hours, stating if I wanted info on it, I would have to supply 1. account name, 2. email address, 3. my birth date. I did that, and again within 24 hours, I was able to see the transcripts of what "got me into trouble". In my case it was exchanging IM accounts....SO BEWARE!!

Also, when I tried to log in under my account, they directed me to another screen, that would explain that my account was on hold, and it would even say how many days I had left till they released it.

I have to say that I really felt that they took care of answering my questions, and making sure that things got taken care of. I didn't have to wait around, or keep calling to find out what was going on, they have improved on that system. I have no complaints, except that they could let the adults have a little more privileges? But I also understand that they need to protect the kiddos...

Is there a list anywhere that explains what you can get in trouble w/? I can see adults exchanging info w/o thinking twice about it. I know I've mentioned this site and the other site to sf's that I've met there. Wonder if I can get in trouble w/ that? Altho I do understand protecting the kiddos... that is one reason I like TT... I feel safe letting my kids play there.

Here is a copy of the original email I did receive from TT. It does give a link to go over the house rules. But, as you can tell, when you first get the email, you really have no idea WHAT it was that you did wrong. My response to them was, what am I in violation of?

Dear Toontown Guest,

We are writing to inform you that based on a violation of the Walt
Disney Internet Group?s (WDIG) Terms of Use, we have suspended your account
for 72 hours.

To regain access to your account after this 72 hour suspension,
you must review and agree to our Terms of Use and House Rules here:
http://disney.go.com/corporate/legal/terms.html

Please be advised that this 72 hour hold serves as an official warning
and that further violations of the Terms of Use may result in further account
suspension or termination.

Thank you, The Disney Online Team

I hope not mentioning this site or the other site constitutes a ban. If it does I squeaked by, as I have mentioned them to SF's while playing TT.

Thanks for posting this here, Kitty Mama! Smile About time we found something to get you to post, too! Wink

Yes, SWP, apparently mentioning other sites will get you suspended. I did read on another site where someone wrote them back after getting that chat log, and got them to change it to a warning. Still WAY over the top IMO. AND mentioned nowhere in the TOS!!

PBB I'm glad you feel they were reasonable about yours. However, reading most chat logs, there's often no reason for the person to have thought they were doing anything wrong.

That's one of the main points of the complaints - TT has these shadowy "rules" that they are enforcing at their whim. Most of the chat logs I've seen are NOT clear violations of the TOS. Personally, I would like TT to provide as clear a list as possible of potential violations rather than suddenly presenting someone with a warning or suspension.

Also, some people have been warned (etc) and NOT gotten any explanation even after many attempts at getting one. There is NO reason why an explanation and chat log shouldn't be supplied with the original e-mail. There is NO reason why you have to get the proper e-mail address from a fansite (that you're not even allowed to mention in game!) rather than from TT itself. At least one person has bene perma-banned with no explanation. I realize they reserve the right to do this - but to ban someone, give no explanation and refuse to refund the recent yearly payment is simply WRONG. And the fact that some customers feel they've been treated fairly does not make up for those that haven't.

My personal complaint is that TT has covered themselves legally with their sf policy in the first place. While I appreciate them recording chat logs just in case, they should not be monitoring it to the extent they are. In fact, the sfs panel in game specifically states that they DO NOT monitor sf chat! Which is it? Pick a way, and be consistent! Rolling Eyes The TOS do NOT state that you will be suspended for doing xyz; in fact it states that you do so at your own risk. It DOES NOT STATE "at the risk of being suspended". The way they've removed personal responsibilty, they might as well allow completely OPEN chat! As a parent, I choose which sf plan I want to use, then monitor my own children. That's how it's set up and that's how it should be. I have the freedom to turn off the sf option or to delete any friend I am uncomfortable with - and I have actually done that in the past.

Most of these things they're warning for do nothing to protect children. They're putting themselves in the position of the parents. I am fully aware that there are some parents who don't monitor their children but TT has covered themselves against those situations. Now they're going overboard the other way and punishing the rest of us, and that's just wrong.
