Hi everyone. Im sure most of my problems have been posted about somewhere else, but i'm out of my usual persistence...
I just want to take a minute to thank all of you for support the last couple days. My wife and I are now disconnected (involuntarily) from the gaming sites. I am at this time unable to achieve anything but proving computers can fly. BTW, that's hard on the hard drive and I don't usually recommend such unconventional practices.
See, we were playing on Test Saturday morning. After the mid-morning update, neither test nor open can be accessed. I've tried uninstalling TT manually, emptied the Temp and Temp Internet folders, uninstalled and reinstalled Symmantec, killed the cookies, etc. You get it, right? I'm beginning to think it may be related to out ISP somehow. We have talked to several friends, one of whom was on with us before the test update on 4-14-07. They successfully reconnected and have been gaming without incident.
We probably will not make the beanfest on test tonight, or the other "celebrated functions" after. I am being encouraged to take a break from this infernal frustrating terribly stubborn piece of... necessary technology.
I appreciate all offered input whether I've covered it or not, cause usually, when I cover things, there are holes I miss or do wrong,or whatever. Thanks to all, and my apologies because of our absence...
J

Aww man, that stinks! Guess that's why we were short a monkey tonight .
I would suggest doing the disk cleanup and defrag, but from the sound of what you've tried so far I don't think it's gonna help. Are you getting any kind of error messages? Maybe if you post what kind of message you are getting when you try some of the 'puter savvy people here can help figure it out.
Maybe you should update your drivers

Can you give more details? What point can you get to before it stops? What message do you get?
I've had problems before with my firewall, with DirectX, and a few other things I can't remember that you didn't cover. I always found my answers by going to Live Chat. They may not be able to help you, and they mostly get joked about but they DO have answers sometimes (and sometimes it really IS our drivers! )

Since you said this happened to two computers I am figuring that you are using a router. If so, make sure that the router has the latest firmware update and that you have enabled port triggering for ports 6112 and 6667. Good luck

Ok, well we are back online now. It had to have been our internet provider having some kinda problem. Jay worked all weekend tweeking this and fixing that, with no success. Finally, he just gave up. Then today I finally decide to try it...AND IT WORKS!!. So, go figure.
We werent getting any error messages, it just wouldnt continue the download sequence from a reinstall attempt. It would just sit there showing the download bar not moving and stayed there till we closed it.
So, all is good now. Wow it is weird to be disconnected so...glad to be back

Thanks, all, for the kind and helpful encouragements and suggestions. As you have seen from my wife's post, things are up and running. At this point, I can only fill in details I left out (for sanity's sake). Here goes:
I did a drive clean-up, but not a defrag, as I do that on a regular basis anyway, so i knew it was not a factor this time. Excellent suggestion though, as it has caused me some trouble in the past.
No, didn't update drivers (two cards), the graphics cards are too different, and the problem too much the same, for me to think it was the typical Disney fix-all recommendation LOL.
Firewalls were set correctly on both machines, and the Filter function was set to "Always Permit" on the toontown programs. Direct-X? Well, I was ready to "X" everything, but the break calmed me down enough to be calm and collective, thanks.
We are running a wireless router, a D-Link model god to 54Mbps, with three of the four ports connected, the other running to an X-box 360 that's hard-wire connected. This has never been a problem. Setting port triggers is a bit outa my neck-O-the-woods, rally. Last time I tried messin with it, was a major problem because the router we have is a "special", serviced by a diff division from D'Link's typical customer service div. Thanks. I really need to learn how to do this though. Great suggestion.
Finally, the curious thing... Each time I would uninstall before reattempting an installation. The "old" folder would go to the Recycle Bin. Now at some point, I got particularly curious, and checked them. There were four or five of these, and each contained a different amount of Data, ranging from 20K to as much as 130M. The download screen that plays the TT song and slide show... it would install to a certain point and then reset to a No Download Indicated status. You know, the yellow bar that indicates how much has been set to the machine.
Conclusion:
Our ISP is DSL through Earthlink. I think their server was having disconnect problems, timing out or some similar problem. They have had that happen before, I know from first-hand experience. Anyway, today my wife tried a reinstall today before sending me your great helps, and it worked, nothing was different from before except the passing of time.
The real conclusion:
Thanks all. Perhaps this will assist someone else with difficulties. Bottom line, I think the only thing I really could do to solve this was to wait it out, and perhaps call Earthlink to get a server status report. As my momma used to say, "Some things just have to endure." Happy Toonin, Yall,, and THANKS A MILLION!
Doctor Goopy and Dizzy BB (I'm gonna get it for that)...

Well you solved your problem with a correct guess..
Your isp is through
Earthlink.
I had 2 friends who worked in Bellevue WA at their call center about 4 years ago (yeah I know things change)
and they were constantly busy there 24/7 due to consistent sever crashes, and technical problems
at the ISP end. My friends quit as they got tired of lying to customers , telling them things
were down due to routine maintenance, or it must be your fault.
