OK, I have a a question for all you avid ToonTown gaming Pro's. But first, a bit of background...
I have an old machine.. It's a Win2K machine, 750M P3. It has a Radeon 9600 graphics card. IE is version 6.something, and the Ram is ~512M. Those of you who know me indicating we have a good and old machine... this is the "old" one. I was running Norton Internet Security 2006 on it, and it has expired. I would have gone through the renewal process (I prefer easy to new), but a couple weeks before renewal, I had an update error, and a portion of the Internet Security engine would not update. After going through the various links, I was presented with a message saying the problem was an unknown issue that Symmantec would have to look into. I was advised to wait a couple weeks and reattempt the update. This I did, with the same results. Now I have to renew just to see if the problem is solved. This seems a bit unreasonable to me.
OK, the question...
What AntiVirus/Machine Security program do you recommend. I plan on updating this weekend, but that isn't carved in stone. We usually only use that machine for incidental browsing and the often occasion of ToonTowning. I welcome your input, and appreciate your responses...

Sorry Jay...
My hubby does all that stuff...I think that he uses Mcaffee though. Haven't had any problems with it...the only thing I know is that you have to uninstall the current one before you install a different one or they will duke it out and you will have no more machine left. Actually would be pretty cool to see on someone elses computer I guess...not your own.

I have used AVG and Antivir, but I am finding that Avast is working best for me now, and has a lot of good features built in. Here's a link: http://www.avast.com

Thanks, you all, for your inputs. It's good to hear from you and get your experience. I have saved the links above, and will be checking on things as soon as I can. I must say, I full-blown forgot today was Sunday when I posted above about hoping to get this completed by the weekend. I guess that's a sign of having a GREAT weekend, huh, when one forgets what day it is, or how much is left of it.
Well, thanks anyway, for all your help and assistance. I welcome thoughts, comments, and recommendations of course, as there are a ton of directions I could go, and I don't know what's the best. So thanks again, everyone! In Toonian fashion,
You Guys are GREAT!

The only "anti-virus/security" stuff that I use is Windows Defender. It scans and monitors your system for port intrusions, spyware, etc. It is FREE from Microsoft and has never caused any ToonTown problems! Another neat thing about Defender is the "running programs" section that is merged with "Task Manager". It shows EVERYTHING running on your computer. It is really cool for identifying ALL THOSE RESOURCE draining processes so you know what to keep and what to shut down!

We have 3 machines and 2 are running NOD32 antivirus, and the 3rd is running Avast antivirus.
Avast is free and we have had no problems on that machine except when the kids downloaded a crack
with some spyware buried in it.
We use Spybot S&D on all 3 machines as well.
Spybot is also free.

Kapersky is good. Tried it as well.
So choose what works for you, and is easy on your wallet (or purse). |
Glad you approve my choice My freebie that came with this laptop expired the other day. Norton. ALMOST just renewed it but then asked my brother and he mentioned Kapersky. Never heard of it! Did a little research and decided that was the one. So easy even I could set it up Great reviews too.
