Sound Ubers
View Single PostView Single Post

Ok, so I'm thinking last night Razz about the sell ubers with sound and wondering how often they actually get to use sound. It seems most of the time at the uber runs lure is used and not sound. At the CCG runs sound isn't used either with low laff toons. Only on the last cogs have I ever seen sound used. I see the benefits as far as the factory goes, but most ubers would rather not sound in the VP for obvious reasons and if it was used then you would have to have other sound ubers on your side. So to those of you with sound ubers, how often do you actually get to use it? Confused If I ever decide to make another one, then I'm not sure of the benefits of picking sound.

Yeah, most people don't use sound until the end on a CCG run. I've noticed there are more high laff toons than low at the CCG runs anyway. My toon roxy is on her way to her elephant trunk already. She's on 46. Not sure if that is uber material.....

Pick Me! Pick Me!

My first uber was a tu/lure uber. Play it safe. Test the waters. See if I could handle it. I loved it, but soon the risk factor was gone and it seemed a little too easy. Mister Fahrenheit (3track sound) moved in to fill that void.

I quickly realized that sounding was not as easy as it seemed. CCG cannot, understandably, condone sound with low lp toons. With constant new and young players - lack of experience, lack of strategy and lack of gags makes the LLKR plan the simplest and safest way to make sure everyone dances. Not that it's alot of fun, but it is the most effective plan. Still when I found myself sided with experienced CCGers and Fahren as the only toon under 100lp, I still had to force sound. That was very frustrating.

At uber runs, it is a majority decision. It is very rare to be in a group with enough sound to prevail. Sometimes we got a gutsy non-sounder willling to work with us, but more often than not it was LLKR/or safer yet LLKL. What irritated me was hearing a few 3track sounders complain about sounding in the VP! It surprised me to discover that some sound ubers only chose it to make the factories faster and still would rather play it safe with lure. That confuses me since my experience shows that sound misses less often than lure. If you wanted to play it safe - then why make a uber at all?

Once Fahrenheit was able to board in River without shuffle (ppl USUALLY look at suits not laff), he spent 90% of his runs with randoms. He may have often admired his toes in DG, but he was able to sound! He was built for risk and speed and that's where I had to go to find it. I spent 3 days running River last week advancing from HW40 to HW50. It was exciting, dangerous and most of all FUN!

So I guess it depends on where you wanna play? Are you going to just attend CCG and TTF or do you wanna play wild and take your chances with randoms? I love every minute playing Fahrenheit and if I have to increase the risk by running randoms then - wOOt! Bring it on!

You can always call for a uber sound run - see if you get any response. I will be more than pleased to attend! cheshirecat

Sounds like fun! I have to admit I've been not as worried about missing the uber runs lately cause it's really a drag going in and LLKR or L or whichever way people go. Much more exciting if it's mixed up, but most people want to dance I guess. Rolling Eyes I do enjoy the TTF runs with Meow because if people want to sound and can kill the cogs then go for it. Like you said I think lure misses way more than sound. I always feel bad for the sound ubers as they have a maxed gag they can't or won't use. Like you said the risk/thrill is in the laff not the gags or talent. We definitely need to plan some four toon vp runs.

Hmm, maybe something to try and work on if I can get through these last few days of work. Very Happy Thanks for the feedback.

LVTP pretty much said it all. I know sound makes the factories easier, but I don't get why some sound ubers won't use those fogs in VP. I always bring my fogs and a few eles to the uber runs. Most of the time I end up being the only sounding toon, so there's not much I can do with it except take out the last row of cogs. 3 or 4 times I've ended up on a side where there were no toons with lure, that was a blast - literally. We have in the past had a special sounding uber run - the 2 trackers that came complimented the sound by finishing off the biggest cogs so we could conserve on fogs.

I rarely take my VP ubers to CCG runs anymore, but when I do if I'm sided with big toons I'll be one of the first to say "Let's use sound". Sometimes some well-meaning big toon pulls out a presentation, then I do stick with PKL, doesn't mean I have to like it.

As a 15-20 laffer: I will request sound. I have no problem with it.

The CCG guidelines do not favor sounding and I doubt anyone will change that anytime soon.
I won't even try to have a strategy discussion about deviation from LLKR etc... ugh....
Strategy posts in the CCG are a surefire way to kick off a raging debate.

But , I've never seen the CCG players chastise an Uber for encouraging/using sound, rather I've seen people critique the blatant sound gag workers often associated with less experienced players (or Green Dogs).

I started working a max Sound/Drop Uber over the past 2 months and it is fun. I just run randoms vs the CCG.

There are several people in the CCG who will sound with Ubers. It only requires "faith trust and pixie dust" aka (check their gags, use speedchat and pray/doddle when sound misses.)

LST, PCD (PCD is my sound/drop Uber)....

I have a three track sound Uber and will sound with anybody anytime. I do get a little frustrated not being able to use my Maxxed sound in CCG runs. I feel like it is such a waste. But when your a 25 laffer you take what you can get. If sound is played as a team it does more damage then any other gag up to lvl 6. I think the odds are with you for getting a hit. And if you do miss, well lets just hope somebody has lure and some really good doodles.

Well, thanks for the input from everyone. I think it will be fun making a new uber as I'll have some extra time for it soon. Very Happy Are there special runs for these ubers? I would think if sound missed on four 8 plus cogs than the lures and doodles won't help much. You would need to have a good doodle though just in case you do survive sound missing. Maybe we can do a special sound and doodle only TTF run. That would be exciting!

Back when ttf was doing Wacky Wednesday, we did a doodle only for TU VP and CFO. It was an absolute blast - I brought my uber for the VP and lived to tell the tale. That VP is what sold me on the idea of making a tuless toon. Nice doodle Laughing

Haven't I seen you at the all uber VPs? If not, check out this link. We do uber only runs every Tuesday (that's tonight Razz )

Awww! Well RATS, we woulda loved to have had you on the last load, our very short elevator, (we attempted with 6 total, 3 of them 2 trackers).
We lost a whole side in the first round of skels.
Two of us, Vicky Rockentoon and Melon Collie had to kill all of the SKELS, which we did with careful precision with level 7s.
At times we had to lure first, or wait so that we could also contribute a pie to kill the 12s.
We both danced, for a lousy card, we were sad to have lost our teamates, but GOSH what a rush!
Thanks V, you were amazing in there!

I know what you mean the two toon Pie Fight is very exciting. I showed up with my Sound Uber so I don't think I would have been much help. But then the same holds true for all my toons. Rolling Eyes

The sound ubers tried to kill me!!
Well, ok - so I encouraged them to use sound Smile And, maybe there was the fact that I knew that I was the only uber with lure and then didn't use it once. But, we happily made it all the way to the end last night, letting the sounders loose!

That was such a fun run - wOOt! You know I had to laugh as you danced, thinking about how those four cogs were gonna hit us! Though a bit low in lp - we all survived. And I seem to remember being the only lure once too and forgetting. Embarassed You were a great sport in allowing us to sound through the skeles. It was a blast!

Not exactly on topic no "sound ubers" on this load, but ... this VP will long be remembered by me:

Smirky reports that on:

June 12, 2007 7:00 p.m. PST – VP Uber Run
6/6 danced

+Romeo 50 (alted to save merits)
+*Smirky 34 Mingler 9
+Pit E Full Pup 15 Mingler 10
*Corinne 25 Mingler 10
Sue Whee 35 MS 9
*Juliet 50 (alted to save merits)

+ Together in Cog Round
* Together in Skele Round

What a delightful run. Sorry I didn’t get everyone’s suit level. Stellar teamwork prevailed. Not sure why the elevator didn’t get packed, nonetheless, this run made my day. After Romeo finished up his side in the skeles, he popped over to assist us so he and Juliet could pass out kisses to each other, awwww … too darn cute!!! I was tickled pink to see us dance.

I do however have a 30 laff three track sound uber who is a holly 50 and she was/is a total blast to play. More memorable moments tucked away when she got to board with Littlespikes 15 laff cat Fritz (now a whopping 20 laff holly 50). I still remember the marbles the toon threw out on the first holly 12, lol.
