I've been trying to catch a few last fish on Loopy Nickelgoose (he needs 6 more total) and been trying to see if there's any "hot" areas for said fish. I've come across some interesting myths - what do you all think?
Fishing at the same dock (as in not changing docks at a pond)
Changing districts if the one your are in seems to be a dud
Fishing only in particular known "hot" districts
Only fishing a few buckets before changing to other districts
If you get a "new record" then stay where you are
Try to get all the fish you can on the rod you have before buying a new one
There's probably more you guys have heard of too!! I'm testing the theory of catching all the possible fish on one rod before moving to the next and I'm finding it quite credible so far on my horse. He's got the Bamboo rod and has 46 of the 49 he possible could have. He's missing the Holey Mackarel, Devil Ray and Concord PB&J. Just today I caught 4 new species on him by just following the fishing guide and amazingly it only took a few buckets at each pond! I really dislike the estate pond, so I know I'll have problems with getting the Holey Mackarel lol. I think he should receive his Hardwood rod tonight, so there'll be more fishies to get.

Actually I had heard to not fish in the "hot" districts. But one day, I did a fishing run. And I caught 4 new species (by following the guide that I found here. I caught all of them on Nutty River. But, I'm not saying that you should be in a hot district either.
I think that once you catch the more common fish, it becomes increasingly difficult to catch the rare ones. I've got 61 out of 70 fish. I've been after that elusive Grizzly 4 - EV - R! It's been a month since I caught those 4 and I haven't caught a new one since.
I know this is not much help, but this is what I run into.

Loopy- I've caught all my Holey Macks during the Wed bingo Top of the hour one. Super block out? You can add that to your myths I guess?
I have one toon, Zack, we bought the poles as fast as we can. This is when fishing first came out. He has the least amount of fish. The others I fished until I was bored with that pole. On test, which can be an entirely different thing, I do have a toon that I did the fish for every possible fish before moving on the pole. He has the most fish out of all my toons.

I got Holey Mackrel when fishing at my estate. Amazingly it was like the second bucket! I was so happy!
The myths I think some are real. I'm not sure about some of them because I never tried them. But I think the district change is good one. I noticed a big change in what I caught when switching into a different district.....

One I heard was that if you get a boot, try your best to watch THAT spot and aim for it. I don't know if it really works because I don't like to fish anyway, but some people swear by it!

Ooops, when I said "hot district" I didn't mean full, like Nutty River, I meant that some districts are rumored to be best for catching fish.

I believe in all those myths. I've also read about all of them over in ttc.

The only one I believe is keeping your pole until you have the fish. I actually emailed Disney this afternoon asking for toons to be able to downgrade their poles. I've been stuck forever on 66 fish until tonight. I think fishing is completely luck. I'm w/ the posts at ttc who say it is not programmed to give you records or whatever to keep you fishing. I had one of my worst buckets ever right before getting the Grand. I've been ready to completely give up fishing bc you aren't guaranteed to get them all. At least w/ all of the other lps you can get them with hard work... you know you can max them. I might have to buy a lottery ticket tomorrow since I got the Grizzley. lol

I have caught 70 fish on 2 toons and am working to finish a 3rd toon now.
Seems you hit plateaus and you just have to put in the time and fish.
It does seem tedious, but I don't think there is any real short cut or trick to it.
On my 1st toon it took me about 3 months, fishing about 1-2 hrs daily.
It took a little longer on my 2nd toon. I probably fished about 4 months, but I was also maxing law and running a couple ubers in between fishing.
I did have very good luck catching my last 4 at a district in which an ultra rare was caught on the same day. This was the method I used on both my toons. It also has been pretty lucky on my 3rd toon as I have gone from 60 to 66 fish by just going to the same district that someone posted a catch for an ultra rare. I have referred to this as the "hot district" theory. But it is just that, a theory, not a fact or anything that you can confirm. I found I would often get a few records and tons of buckets worth 250-300 beans in a "so called hot district". I used to invite folks to fish with me and they had good luck too,
Anyway, it is probably coincidence, but it gives you hope to put in the time and fish in one place.
Best of luck
LST

Granny's been after her last five fish for quite some time. Not really putting any effort into it until lately, though, so I'm willing to try just about anything.
As far as the "myths" go, I've heard about the boot, also, and know a couple of people who swear by it. *shrug* I've tried it but haven't been successful.

I'd say these strategies are as good as anything else
And, there are people in Vegas that think if you tap your fingers on the slot machine screen that you are going to win too!

After catching all the fish on two toons and having numerous discussions with other players who have caught all the fish, I truly believe that it is random. A lot of my friends swear by fishing where someone else just caught the fish, and maybe it worked for them, but it never worked for me. One time I just went into the top blue district and caught a full moon in less than a minute. I told one person and in less than another minute, 8 toons were there looking for it. None of them caught it.
One of my friends swore by the fishing each dock for 5 buckets and switch districts theory. It worked for his first two toons, but not the third one he maxed fishing on. Maybe Disney changes all that stuff when they do those update closures that seem to not produce any updates.

Every one of my toons caught the holey mackeral on a friends estate. Sparkle caught one on little loopys estate during the TTF race when she was trying for an eel...hehe. I usually fish when I need beans and rarely get a new one but I was killing time before a run the other night and Wiley caught a new species and he has a full piggybank....was almost like they knew he didn't need the beans so threw him a new one .I think it is just luck and patience. Congrats to anyone who has gotten them all, and to the rest of us Good Luck!

I've had good luck with the "hot districts", and like Littlespike, have shared that with others when they fished with me.
I've also caught a lot of ultras after catching a bundle of boots in rapid succession.
