How Much Grief?
View Single PostView Single Post

Hey Guys,

I need to run something by ya'll and see what ya'll say about it. Last night, me and a SF were in the DA (D Office) with 2 randoms. Anyway, we were on a level that had the minesweeper style puzzle. I had a brain fart and chose the wrong square. We'll I started getting greif from the randoms. I thought "OK I deserve it. I did something stupid. So take it on the chin." I did. I had my sf to choose lure and I used my level 7 choo choo on the skelees. Even after that, I was receiving grief from those guys for the rest of the floor. We're on the next floor, and we come to a puzzle section. I hang back w/one of the randoms. I'm still getting grief. I'm starting to tire of it right now. I'm not touching the puzzle. I said sorry, I fixed the problem, what else am I supposed to do? We make it to the end of that level. Guess what? Receiving more grief. I wish I can more descriptive with what I was getting, but it was coming furious with whispers and out in the open. I didn't write them down. We're on the 2nd level of this thing, and I do not want to hear four more levels of this junk. So I ask my SF if it was ok to do so. She agreed to do so. I think she was getting some grief too.

So my question to ya'll is what would ya'll do? I'm obviously not a good griefer. So I didn't have any snappy comebacks. And when I finally did try a comeback, they were lame. Should I have stuck it out with those guys?

As a side note: They stink us we were leaving and when we came back to the DA's office. What's a toon to do?

People do tend to get very touchy in there. We had one leave when someone accidently hit the safe instead of piano. Not a major deal, but this toon ditched us asap. You did the right thing in my opinion. If I trigger the skelecogs than I use a level 7. If I have no sevens to use(which is almost all the time these days), then I don't do the puzzles that I might not get. The minesweeper is one that is triggered the most and most toons usually don't care especially if you used a seven on it. Just keep hanging out with folks here and your stinkiness will drastically improve. Razz I wouldn't worry about it too much. I don't think going four more floors with constant grief is anyones idea of fun. Unless of course it's friends and you are just goofing off. Very Happy

Hey... you did what you could do... when it gets to the point of taking the "fun" out of the game then it's time to leave and it sounds like that is what you did.

I had grief yesterday fighting the cj. I'm stunning the cogs and this toon comes up and says you need to hit the scale. We were close to the end so I thought okey they need help over there. I got more evidence and by the end of that round we were finished. When everyone was dancing she kept saying you stink you need to hit the scale. Now I think I sparkle fighting the cj so what the heck was that all about. Some toons are just downright mean. If toons are mean from now on im makin like a banana and split. You did the right thing, no one deserves to be treated meanly. Its only a game. Hey I'll play with you.

That's why I don't go with randoms. I play for fun and they suck the fun out. *shrug* what can you do? People take this stuff way too seriously. They were jerks, and I probably would have left too. Life's too short.

I think people like that are just a little too touchy. One thing that really works is to not say anything or saying "I don't care." They'll soon get tired of griefing and leave you alone. But by the way you explained these 2 toons, they seem like tough eggs to crack. Maybe leaving was a good choice. I've never reported anyone before for atrocious behavior. I almost did once for this green cat that would never shut up. I'm glad you left them!

Granny would have griefed them back! Laughing

I agree, though, and don't like having the fun taken out of it for me, either.

I hunt them down, for eons, never forgetting any single slight ever delivered to me, my kids or my friends.
Simply PM me their toon names and descriptions. I will find them, grief them and deliver thier toony little heads to your door.

You never need to stoop to their level. You could end up with a backache! If they are giving you a hard time, you just need to decide if you want to finish the task or bail. They have serious issues, you do not. There will be no rhyme or reason to anything that happens after that is first noticed. It really is a shame that this kind of stuff happens so frequently. The best thing to do is not to personalize it and just know that these people are beneath you. It is a huge waste of time, though.

On a side note, I DA'd last night (which I rarely ever do these days) with two friends and a random. Our gags missed a lot. Sound missed 4 times and level 7s missed twice. It was destined to be a very long visit to the DA. The random kept saying sorry about everything. We all kept saying, "No problem", but it seemed like she thought we would be mad at her because our gags kept missing. There were a couple bad puzzles, too. I guess I can understand (slightly) was she was so sorry about everything. She probably thought we were going to yell at her.

Personally I think it's very sad that a toon would feel that way, LW. But I think I know how she feels. The very few times I have ever run with all randoms I felt the same way when things go wrong - are they going to "kill me off" if things don't go their way? I also notice the same thing when my friends have a random tag along. It's pitiful that so many people in a fun cartoon game think it's OK to treat others like crap, and the saddest part of all is that many of the worst ones are adults! I'm very watchful of my little ones when they play because of this - even on the trolley people are jerks. Any adult who acts this way should be ashamed of themselves.

I'm all for personal preferences, heck I sure have my own way of doing things, right, MST? Razz But if I am going to insist on my way I should play alone or with friends who agree.

I see this a lot because I don't have a huge friends list, and most of my CB and LB HQ runs are with randoms since hubby doesn't play as much as he used to and doesn't have a full CB suit as it is.

It's one thing to loose a building and get a you stink, it doesn't feel nice but once is all they need to say it. You know you did wrong, they proved it, time to move along. To continue with the stinks, and sad faces over and over again crosses the line.

Honestly, I would have left as well. But that's after they did a couple lures and I tooted my bike horn a time or two with an "oops" "sorry". evil2

I just don't have the patience to deal with idiots or griefers in an online environment anymore. They feel it's an anonymous face they wear which gives them a license to be a moron. It also reinforces the fact my child will not be posting anywhere on the internet until I know for a fact he won't be acting like a 6 year old at a cotton candy stand waiting in line for his 15th serving of pure sugar.

I digress... lol

Back to your situation yeah I would have bailed as well. I also would have done screen shots and sent them in as harrassment. The screen shot shows who it was and provide the time you were on so they can find the logs easier. The logs will show if you are over reacting and they only did a stink maybe twice or if you really were harrassed and stunk 30 or 40 times.

Sorry it happened. If you want to meet up to have another friend to run with let me know and we can eiter exchange a SF code if you want or just be regular speed chat friends. I'll gladly run with you any time I can.

If I make a mistake, (pick the wrong gag, god forbid I tag the 11 with "tester toons" in the mint, evoke the frowny/sad face, trip the holocogs yada yada), I may say sorry but I just move on. If and when someone makes a big deal out of it, I just remain silent. I don't SF chat or Speedchat much anyway.

I won't ditch with a freind, but if I am solo I may throw my TP hole and leave but most times I'm too stubborn and just power thru.

What LZ and LW said is really important, which is to NOT belittle or denigrate others.
I don't like it when I even think about saying "Huh", "Are you New Here", "You stink" etc....

As to greifing the greifers.... Well I only go after the reformed greifers, red pigs, oranage cats and toons with cute names and matching outfits.

I hear there is an all volunteer vigalante force who goes after the griefers. But it's a super secret group, has wicked initiation rites, and is headed by some toon named.......{connection lost}....... {your IP has been flagged}...... (your system is being restarted}, .....{your hard disk is being reformatted }.......

minus the "you stink" I use the other phrases in reply to getting the "you stink" said to me. Mr. Green

"you stink"
"huh?" (me)

"you stink"
"yes" (me)
"phew" (me)
"sorry i couldn't wait any longer (me)

"you stink"
"shrug emote" (me)

And I don't ditch friends, before I'd TP out I'd make sure they wanted too as well. If they didn't then I'd open my book the first chance I got and turn off my sound and turn up my Itunes and enjoy the game. Mr. Green I don't need to depend on TT sound to play like I do for other games since I can tell SF chat vs. spammed speed chat.

They can stink me all the want but it won't bother me any since the chat bubbles only surround the edge of my screen and I can pick gags still and can't hear a single "pssst" sound.

Got that right as you certainly have your own way of doing the DA. Razz Nothing wrong with it just different than the way everyone else does it. I don't mind adjusting to how my friends like to play because I'm in with them to get notices, etc and for the company. I don't stink randoms even though there have been many, many times I've wanted too, but as a grown person Rolling Eyes you always have to wonder if it's a child who made the mistake. I guess I've been lucky as I've never really been stunk or worried when I have tripped a puzzle that these toons will kill me off. If they did start something, I'd very quietly let them have their way and we can all hit the PG as a happy random family. Just gags and beans.

I enjoy giving my friends grief, but I know they love it and dish it right back. Mad

Sounds like you were in with some real winners there. Everyone that attempts the puzzles is going to trip them now and then. I tripped the holo's on minesweeper the other day, fortunately with friends who gave me grief with love. Last time I tripped them in a random, I was fortunate to be with a great group that all said "No problem".

Ricky has the phrase "Don't sweat it", which I always use when someone trips the skeles. If they trip them repeatedly, or trip them on the really easy ones - that's a different story. If they were giving you that much grief on only the second floor, I'm not sure I would have stayed either. If I did, I would have just watched while they did the rest of the puzzles and been very polite if/when they tripped one. I'm usually off chatting on IM somewhere, so I miss most of what's said in-game anyway LOL.

Embarassed Granny doesn't have much experience with the DAs, so when she does go, she likes to try the puzzles... you know, to get some practice. More often than not I'm tripping the holocogs and then LOLing about it. Fortunately, I'm with friends who "grief with love" as Heather said.

For the most part, if I ever do play with randoms Shocked I try to give them the benefit of the doubt. As someone pointed out, it could be a kid. And this is just a game, something I do for laughs and to spend time with my online friends. When it boils down to it, I have more stressing issues in RL than to waste my time and energy over behavior on TT.
