Now that Goofo is done reading, we can discuss.
I'm going to open in by saying I read book 7 and just decided to go back and read all the HP's starting from book 1.
In book 1 the "deluminator" discussed in Dumbledore's will is introduced as "the Out-putter."
I'm trying to get a couple of posts down so people don't accidentally click on the link and read the discussion.

I reread 5 and 6 before 7 came out. I had many ideas many were correct!
I really want to reread 7, slow down and savor the book.

Ok for all those who haven't finished reading stop looking at these posts..............
Everyone else...........
Seriously, if you haven't finished reading the book, it will be ruined for you so stop with your cute little comments about what page you are on and that you are still reading the posts. (Ouch, that sounded vicious. I just really don't want to ruin the book for you)
I'm not sure I liked this book. There were too many loose ends tied up in such an odd way I'm not sure it flowed.
Like- why Dumbledore believed in Snape
why everyone got the things from Dumbledore
how Harry died or didn't die?
you knew Harry and Voldemort were going to face each other at the end, but didn't it seem a bit anti-climatic?
and Neville doing something right for a change? How odd was that?
Dumbledore not being all he was cracked up to be
I'm not sure the flashbacks were the same, which is why I'm re reading HP from book 1.
For example... Harry being on the broom for the first time in book one. But Sirius had given him one for his birthday. I need to check this but I think it said when he was 2 and Harry's parents died when he was 1. Ewww- can anyone find this passage?
The epilogue....seriously glad there was one put in but I want more information.
How Hogwarts is still standing?

I'll start the conversation with Neville. In Order of the Phoenix, when the DA started, Neville could not get the hang of the magic UNTIL Bellatrix escaped from Azkaban. In the book Harry remarks that Neville's abilities/attitude changed. He had a reason to fight to avenge his parents. He had the bravery in him always - book 1 - he stood up to his friends to stop them from sneaking out of the common room. I think its great that Neville pulled the sword from the sorting hat at a time of great need just like Harry. Hmmmm, maybe Voldemort chose the wrong child.
I want to know how Ron spoke in Parseltongue.

Do NOT read this if you have not finished the book!
If you do, it's your own fault!
Do not read if not finished!
Zippy, I was wondering the same thing. How all of a sudden Ron can speak Parseltongue.
I always thought Neville had the courage to stand up to Voldemort! Neville rocks!

Ron was just imitating the parseltongue word "open" he heard Harry say earlier in the book. He was just imitating the phonetics just like you might a different language but not know what you are saying.

The broom stick was just a toy broom stick (like a hobby horse) and would only fly 2 feet off the ground. I don't think it counts as an actually broomstick. Obviously at 1 year of age Harry wouldn't remember that so, he would really think he hadn't been on one for the first time in book 1.
I agree with the above about the Parseltongue. Earlier in book 7, Ron was able to imitate the voiceof another character (don't remember who) very well, so it established that he could imitate Harry speaking parseltongue

I liked it, but it was probably my least favorite of the series... maybe that will change when I reread again. I started re-reading it again, but I'm just not as excited as with the others. I liked the Prince's story but it felt rushed. It was like the whole book she had so much info to cram in that it didn't flow as smoothly as the others. That said I did enjoy it, but just not my fav.
She killed off so many good characters that it was painful to read. I would have liked a bit more info in the epilogue, too. I wonder what career paths they chose? Hermione would make one great Minister of Magic!

I think JK Rowling is supposed to say something about their careers in the Dateline NBC interview, Sunday night from 7-9pm eastern.

I'll definitely have to watch that interview. I would love to hear what she has to say now that there aren't any more secrets and she can "tell all."

This book was my favorite of the series. The battle scenes had me on the tip of my seat.
