PBB Nope (at least around here) Pirates isn't in theatres anymore. Darn I missed it too! Meant to....RL got on the way. We do have a local one that plays some older movies so going to keep my eye out there. So many I miss on the big screen Sad

For the adults in the group I HIGHLY recommend Sicko. (even if you're not a M. Moore fan and even if only 70% of the movie is true....heck even if only 50%). Saw it last night. It's not a Rep or Dem movie. It's an everybody who lives here movie. You WILL walk out of there feeling something!

We won't be doing The Simpsons here. Hubby wants to see it badly but I won't watch the tv shows so I am not paying to sit through the theatre. He will prolly end up renting it when it comes out so he can watch it after the boy is in bed - and I will be playing TT. Very Happy

I have no desire to see Underdog, but my 7yo has it on the top of his list. Dogs are his passion in life so we will be going. I imagine I will get a good cat nap in at it. Laughing

LadyZ :

Here's a link to the movie review on the site we use.

All my kids want to see it. The teenagers can, and the little ones won't, and I need to decide if I'll take my 9 year old or not. I love the Simpsons, but never liked my kids watching it. He's been watching the show a little lately, but movies are different IMO. I'll probably end up taking him and discussing it after. Usually after something like this we have respect problems in the house. But he's outgrown most of those and can distinguish cartoon jokes from reality. Confused

Thanks for the awesome review site LadyZ! I like sites that lay out exactly why the movie is rated the way it is. The one we use a lot is www.kids-in-mind.com what I like about that one is it rates the movies on a numerical scale in three different areas and then proceeds to tell you what to expect in those areas so you can make an informed decision on whether or not you want your kids to see it.

Now I have another review site to add to our favourites Cool

We just got back from taking our 8 year old. There were some scenes that made me drop my jaw a bit, considering he was there. A few finger gestures, Bart's nude parts, a few swear words. My child doesn't here swear words around our house so that's a bigger deal. If I would've known these things would I have taken my child, no. Would my husband...yes.

You're welcome Audrey! It's the only one I use but I'll check out the other one you said, too. I like it because it tells you EVERYTHING, every socially acceptable bad word, every kiss, every innuendo. It's usually more info than I personally need but I think there's no such thing as too much detail especially when dealing with the little ones!

I'm leaning towards NOT taking the 9 year old, now. Maybe the video later. He's at an age where he likes to repeat and act out what he sees on the screen! Shocked

We saw the movie today and we all really enjoyed it. There didn't seem to be anything in there that they haven't heard slip from our mouths or heard in the back of the school bus. Other parts went over their heads that hubby and I had a good laugh with. They'll be wanting it as soon as it comes out on DVD Smile

Freddy Whatzit :
I have no desire to see the Simpson's movie. I don't like the show at all. Yes, it has humour. Yes, it has brilliant writers. But it portrays such disrespect that I just can't stand it. We don't watch it at home. It's not as bad as racist or sexist humour, but it's similar in that it bases most of the humour on ridicule, disrespect, and put downs. I know not all the humour is that way, and if they could stick to the "good" humour it would be a truly great show. But as it is, I have to give it two enthusiastic thumbs down, yes without even seeing it, just based on the series it's founded on.

As for Underdog, I agree with others who say they are ruining a classic character. However, my kids are really enthusiastic about wanting to see it, so ... maybe.

Harry Potter was excellent! It's too bad they have to fit the movies into a traditional movie time frame though. I'd love to see a cinematic treatment of the whole book. Alas, that's my lament for so many movies based on good books.

My sis and I (both proud Harry Potter nerds) are hoping they will have extended editions of the movies at some pt. I loved the Lord of the Rings triology more than the books. But I guess it is rare to have movies that well done to where they don't feel rushed or squished. Smile

Also, on another side note, thanks for review websites, ladies. I've bookmarked them. Bella really wants to see The Simpsons, but I've already told her we won't go to the movies to see it. I don't know, just some of the things that I've heard make me think it isn't appropriate for my kids? Bart's naked parts being one of them. lol

Underdog shouldn't have been made. It looks very dumb and it probably is.

That's what I said about "Garfield". Ugh, what a waste! *cringe* The kids loved it, though. I'll take them to see Underdog if they want to and the review sounds ok in terms of any objectionable stuff.

Thats really cute! I wanted to watch a Poke'mon video one night (A long time ago) and I pulled out my Poke'mon stuffed animals and blankets. It's really fun to do things like that. Razz

I don't need to see the Simpson's movie... I live outside of Springfield, Oregon (which we all know is the real Springfield they live in thank you very much!) and most of the citizens in some way are real versions of the Simpson's for me to need to see it.

Heck I can hang out for a couple of hours in the Super Wal*Mart in Springfield and have more Simpson's moments then the movie will ever provide. Mr. Green

I live an hour away from the real Springfield too. To all those people that don't know this, there was a contest with all the Springfields in the U.S. to see which one will be the first one to have The Simpsons movies playing in their theaters or somethin like that. We lost to a Springfield in Vermont or a state somewhere. It's really unfair since we're the real Springfield!
