November 4, 2007 [sv1.0.30.20.test] - Vista compatible TT

November 4, 2007 [sv1.0.30.20.test]

Attention TEST Toons!

We are working on a new Windows Vista(tm) compatible Toontown installer/launcher and need your help! Please download this file:Toontown-setup_TEST.exe, save it, and then double click on it to start the installation process. When installation is complete a shortcut desktop icon will appear, and the new launcher will automatically start. You can use this launcher to login to Toontown TEST instead of through Toontown TEST's website.

This new installation is installed under your C:\Program Files\Disney\Disney Online\ToontownOnline_TEST folder, and will not in anyway affect your previous installation of Toontown TEST.

The new Toontown TEST launcher is fully compatible with other versions of Windows(tm), so please give it a try and let us know what you think! If you encounter any issues with using the launcher or its installation, please visit our Report A Bug page or click on the "Report a Bug" button on the launcher.
*** KNOWN ISSUES ***
Currently the download movie within the launcher window does not display correctly. This will be fixed very soon.

It's about time they made TT compatible with Vista. I wish I hadn't removed Vista from my computer. Rolling Eyes

I'm working on that now. When you download it and set it up, it displays a screen in the middle that looks like the Disney site, but says "page cannot be found" in the middle.

If you have your settings to show that you play in Windowed mode, you will have to reset that feature (loads in full screen mode).

It's interesting that you don't go through IE to load. It's also nice that the icon is completely different from the Open icon, so you can distinguish more easily.

If you get Vista back, you won't keep hitting that button, right? Let everyone else try it out first though before making such a big move Wink

Oh yeah! No way would I go through all that without it being tested and retested again.

If I knew then what I know now I would have never even messed with my computer in the first place. I was mostly concerned about boss coming out and I couldn't test that. (well plus Vista's obsession with telling me what I can and can't do)! Rolling Eyes

I could have lived without testing golf (although I would have been a little sad about it). Now I wonder if it will ever go back the same? Plus I now have to go BUY a darn Vista update. Of course since they won't actually give you a hardcopy when it's already installed. Might make a big fuss about that though. I DID pay for it once! Ummm where is my receipt????

It's about time DISNEY!!!! Sheesh!!!!

I can let my mom play TT now, since this was the only reason she couldn't, since she upgraded to vista.

Ok, have to ask...is Vista really any better than XP or whatever the previous version of windows was? I am not about to change anything on my parents computer...they can get the "new" version when they buy a new one...hopefully all the kinks with TT and Vista will be worked out by then. I am not computer literate enough to try anything while the wizard is across the world...seems the army won't let him come home to figure out MY problems...can you believe that?!? Well, it looks prettier. Very Happy And umm, it's new. And it has umm, a nice cool name "Vista".
Yeah, think that's it. Think I covered everything. Smile

Only get vista if you gonna buy a new pc. Otherwise, keep Windows XP if you already have it.

After January, when they release Service Pack 1 for Vista, you can ask your question again. Smile

So, are we supposed to load Test this new way even if we don't have Vista installed to help test?
I was a little confused on the instructions.

Ahhh what service pack? So I should wait til after January (2010) to get my upgrade thingy that I really already paid for but they won't give me a hard copy of?

Yup that about covers it. Oh and it polices every move you make on your puter (for your own safety of course) cuz you are not smart enough to know what you really want to do without Vista making sure. Your fingers get a good workout clicking all those "are you sure you really wanna go there cuz we have our doubts" buttons. Great exercise! No cardio but you might get that when you start swearing at the dern thing. (I know I broke a sweat once or twice over it) So ummm yeah. Keep that ol XP and miss all the fun of the new cool Vista!

Think I should get a PR job at Microsoft?

Well, our newest machine has Vista as an operating System. It, however, is dedicated to the ranks of "School and Homework", being in the care (?) of our 16 year old son. So it's relegated to being banned from carrying games. It just wouldn't do to have such gaming distractions competing with schoolwork, right? So I don't think we will broach the VISTA/ToonTown conundrum.

As for the comparison between "XP" and "VISTA", I just like what works. ToonTown works on XP. Disney is scramblin to get a "VISTA" site runnin. Probably means people are becoming impatient and cancelling accounts (bottom line is the $$$ bottom line here, I think). Still, Vista is new, and we recall there were issues with XP when it was released initially.

In the end, programming will accommodate the higher-end capacity Vista functions, and µSoft will eventually discontinue support for the XP line as they have for Win98. I have heard that Win2000 is also on the block if not already chopped. So it's like a Borg thing...

Well, I think somebody sent MS a note saying they made a mess of Vista, so they scrambled together a number of fixes and changes for Vista and packaged it together to call it Service Pack 1. Which should be released in January. And no, not January 2010. Razz

Is a "service pack" in addition to buying the upgrade? Or would you think that it would be included in newer versions of Vista releases? You'd think that if they messed the darn thing up they can give out the fix it stuff for free? DUH! What am I talking about here! Silly me! FREE??? HA HA HA HA!

Just SomeBODY sent them a note huh? Not 99.9% of Vista users?

Service Packs are free. Usually download it thru windows update website. Or ask MS to send you a cd instead, with only you paying for shipping costs (last i checked). Windows XP had 2 service packs.

Major computer dealers will ship vista with the service pack after it is released.

Yeah, just "somebody" sent them a note. lol
