My good friend Featherbrains and I were running the factory for my merits. This 60 toon says "I need to defeat Minglers." We say OK. Well, I'm in a bit of a hurry and just want to sound. The 60 toon wants to work gags and keeps giving us the sad face every time we kill the cogs with sound. Then when we dance, the toon says things that are not so nice to us. This is my feeling- if you ask two 100+ toons at a factory to help you get a mingler, there isn't an expectation that they will help you work your gags.
Now, if I walked up to a 60 (or any toon) and asked "what toontask are you working on? Would you like some help?" You are free to expect to work your gags.
I know when I pull out my little toons and ask a bigger toon for help, I'm there to back up and just help their gags.
Am I off base for thinking this?

IMHO - two toons can easily sound a factory alone. If I am running the factory and in a hurry, I'll take the side entrance with a friend so that we have it to ourselves. If I get on with other toons though - I try to look and see what they are working so that I can help them. A little extra time doesn't hurt me. Some payback for all the times toons have helped me out. And I actually like to help toons work their gags. Defeats two birds with one stone. I'd much rather them work gags in the factory than during a boss fight any day.

Well, if you're in a hurry, that's different. I would tell them "I only have a few minutes" and "I'm going to use sound". Then I'd go ahead with my plans once we're in and not worry about him one bit. If I do have time, I don't mind helping them. That's not to say I'll do what I do with friends and my own toons - where the goal is to use every gag in the bag (including all the restocks). You just don't expect that from randoms. I have been known to do it if I have nothing else to do - I actually enjoy it if I have the time - but I can't do it every time.
My feeling is that anyone who runs with randoms takes what they get. So if a random goes in with you, he's on your game plan - just as if you go in with randoms planning to sound, and they have another agenda, too bad. It's pretty much "whoever picks the gag highest up in the rotation gets their way". And while it would have been nice for you to let him do a couple of gags, he should have been grateful for what he got - a trip through to look for a Mingler.

I had a similar experience with randoms recently. Since I wasn't running with anyone, I was willing to help this toon work his gags to some extent ( I think he was working sound). However, the other 2 with us did not want to (and one was an uber). I wanted to make sure the uber lived through the fac, and so was using lure and tu and the other toon would start using the sad face, and stinky phrases. Because I only need a few more merits, and the uber seemed to want to get through quickly, we chose to skip some of the rooms. The other guy went off someplace and started saying "Follow me", etc... He never ended up coming up to the silos, and then just disappeared. Since I am still not a fully grown toon myself (89 lp) I am new to being the "big" toon, and having other toons look to me for guidance. I guess my feeling is - lets do what is best for the group. If we can work someone's gags too, well great. I understand, too, that sometimes we are playing with kids and they have a hard time understanding that the big toons are not their personal helpers or their Moms.
Speaking of working gags, I desparately need to work tu and trap. SO if anyone see's me on and you have nothing else to do, I would be most grateful for the help.

Long ago, (ok not so long ago, uuhhh, well actually I'm still one impatient "*******"), I was always in a hurry. I would get upset if people worked gags or delayed "my progress" in getting Merits or whatever. I have had a change in heart. I think it is a far better thing to help other toons.
With that said, let them work drop or whatever by leaving them one cog or so to work on. The extra 3-5 minutes for a full factory won't make a lick of difference in the grand scheme of things.
Oddly enough, last night on my uber I needed 680...
1st group I was with said "I only have a few minutes..." 3 110+ toons. So... I did a short run. Got 420 out of my 680
and plenty of time before the invasions ran out. They sounded the whole round, and promptly went off to VP. My 19 laffer got to go right back to factory with 19 of 20 of his gags left.
So... I do a 2nd run... This time I say "I only have a few minutes...." Well this group of 55, 76 and 111 laff say "I need more merits"... So... I do a full factory, let them work Lure, Drop, Trap etc... I get bonked around a little, down to 2 laff, 6 laff, 4 laff a few times when drop missed or lure missed.
The irony of it. They get to the foreman and ... they stumble around with gag choices for 2 rounds (I clouded the 6, caked the foreman), the invasion runs out right when we nail the last cog. 1 of the toons is working 5500. I felt bad for him.
Was I [ticked]? NOPE
Did it make a difference to me? NOPE
Does anyone care? I have no qualms meeting any of these toons as I felt I did the right thing.

While I don't think you should be expected to lure every round and kill off one cog at a time so a random can work his gags, it really doesn't take any more time to use a lower sound and let the gag worker finish off the bigger cog. If a toon is working throw/squirt/drop, use aoogah on the 1st set and let him kill off the 5. An ele and an aoogah will kill all but the 6 on the bigger sets. Chose your lower sound and tell them to "Go for the strongest cog first". If they don't get it and go for a lower cog, then I'll bring my sound back up to kill level.
I get frustrated with toons wanting to lure every set in the mints so they can work their gags, but encourage them to let loose with the "left overs" after the first few cogs have been sound blasted away. Have fun!

Most of the time I will help every toon no matter the size or gag level. My main toon and main bud regulary do mints, coins, 5 strys by ourselves, so bringing an extra is no big thing. We normally let them use all their gags. We let the other toon use gags too, during this factory.
I guess my question is more do you have to be the nice helpful toon all the time?
I don't expect other toons to go out of their way to make me happy. I figure thats what my sf's are for so they know exactly what my expectations are and they can agree and if they don't I find a different time.
To the toon asking for help working gags..... PM me! I'm truly a helpful toon, just not this once! LOL

The answer, of course, is NO! I'm with you -- most of the time I am exceedingly helpful, and go well out of my way to help. But I just can't / don't feel like going out of my way ALL the time - nor should anyone expect me to!
I think it's horrible that some toons EXPECT it...you gave him a trip through the factory, and while he had every right to ASK that he get to work gags, he had no right to EXPECT it...and then to STINK you for it? Well, no thanks! And what's funny is that he may very well be over on some other board posting about these horrible, hateful toons. Cry me a river.... Y'all should rest easy with a clear conscience, you did NOTHING wrong.

I think youre absolutelly right! When i was a little toon i asked for help hardly b/c i know big toons b/c my friend is one and he tellsme everything back then. This was good though b/c the less help i got the more gag skill i got with small toons like me. But help once in a while is nice and i dont worry about my gags b/c i thought they were good for my level.

I ran into a toon like this. We were in a level 5 building and he wanted to work his trap gags. Unfortunately, only one of us had lure. If there was any turn that we didn't use lure, He would say "you stink!" about 4 times. I know he wanted to work his gags, but geez, he didn't have to be so selfish!

I really don't mind working gags especially in buildings, but I do mind when they make stupid choices over and over again. The toons I'm thinking of must have been young or new, because eventually with a lot of prompting they would "get it". However as soon as a gag missed or something funky happened, they would fall apart all over again and have to be pulled back in. This is just part of working with random toons though. I have found some of my best toon friends because I jumped into a random building or factory and our battling styles just mesh well, the flip side is I have also had some truly terrible runs, all you can do is shake your head and laugh. One was so bad, my husband (not a tooner) was watching and started yelling at the screen. We decided it had to be a griefer, and just started laughing at the choices, I haven't laughed that hard in quite some time.... Maybe it's time for a stinky run??

I know I'm new here and TTC but I seem to run into a lot of bipolar toons (in no way am I making fun of this disorder in anyway) but I had a friend that I would help out many times and he has help my when I have called him but when we went to cashbot HQ to get on the elevator with his friend and about 6 newbes toons and other toons with 30 laff there was so much jumping on and off the elevator that I saw him and his friend on so i got on AND he jump at the last second and said wait well by then the doors shut its too late now.........until he non stopped whisper me on how he was mad and all the stinks and then took me off his friends list I think I was able to whisper back sorry a few times and a crying out loud...to say the least we didn't get far in the factor b/c no one would work together ........i had 1 other toon in donald dock that I will run the other way from because he did the same thing to me.

You'll find that some parents will share toons with their kids and vice versa....one time you play and all seems well and then the next time it appears that they forgot how to play...

Of course, some adults have an issue, too
I had a SF that was on once while I was at lunch. We had done a building and then another toon asked for help with a building right behind us. I needed cashbots so I hopped on and said "Let's Go!" and all the usual. I knew he didn't need that building for any task so didn't think much of it.
Then! I'm inside and he starts going 'Get out of there!' What are you doing? What kind of friend are you? And, he x'd me and posted a nice, long tirade about it on a site. Geesh!
I've had friends that had me look for a building for them and, in the meantime, they found one with toons and hopped on. I find the building and whisper and find out they've been playing for 2 floors now . Of course, I couldn't X her because she is my cousin, but still......

I know my son plays my toon behind my back sometimes and I apologize if he ever crosses one of you and makes some mistakes. He's 8 and he's just learning social skills, .
As for the rest of this thread, I think we've all encountered needy toons of all ages. What ticks me off is all these toons who just join my list of friends and expect me to be always available. Get real! I didn't get to 110LF on my own, it took help from some people and, in my book, they take priority. I don't feel bad Xing any toon who has no manners, to be honest. I know it's just a game, but...

If I am on a big toon I *usually* lower my sound or play the same gag as the training toon and say "Go for the strongest cog first."
However, if I am the little toon I ALWAYS follow the lead of the big toons and either sound or go for the strongest cog. I am grateful to just get in a run.

I probably have more problems with randoms than pretty much anyone on this site. The most friends (not even SF's) i'll have on at once is usually 1 or 2. Usually it's a SF, but still. I do pretty much every factory, mint, golf course, ect. with randoms and have therefore experienced both sides of the problem. I've been the big toon where everyone wants to work their gags (doing factories with 3 randoms of 60 or lower laff is not fun) and get annoyed when they don't get their way. I've also been the little toon, as I have a new toon that is working gags in factories and basically have to do whatever the majority of the other toons do if I want any gag experience. I also hate it when friends expect you to be available 24/7. I had a SF on TTC that would PM me telling me to get online every couple hours (even during school). I X'd him, and then he PM'd me tons of hate/spam mail. I guess I just wish that people would understand that they can't get their way every time.

I must've been in a mood when I began this thread. I, too, have a son who is 8. I am usually tolerant..... apparently, not this day. Most times, I will do whatever it takes to help out another toon. So don't worry about him getting on our (my) "bad" side.
