Hi everyone!
I have a question, over the weekend I was playing and kept getting kicked off the internet. It was really annoying but more annoying for the people in the building I was with. Have any of you ever had an issue like that?
I am connected through a wireless router, cable modem.
What do you guys generally tell people when that happens, Speed chat is so limiting, I usually just say "Sorry I had to leave unexpectantly" which isn't really true. They need one that says "Sorry, my internet stinks!" I had someone leave my friends list over this. I felt terrible though.
Any ideas please...
Thanks!

Hi There.
You really did the best you could do with the speedchat. You really did leave unexpectedly (internet went down). I agree that they need a speedchat along those same lines. But I'll not be holding my breath for that one.
I hate that you lost a toon friend over it. But, maybe, it was for the best. If they are going to lose patience over something like that, who knows what they would do if the wheels came off in a boss battle.

HI,
I had this problem a few months ago when my wireless router died and I got a new one... The new router wasnt friendly with TT. There are different portals that can be opened up and that may fix your problem. I would start by going to the online support site for your make router and see if you can get some help there. I wasnt able to fix the problem I had with mine, so i bought a new router of a different brand and it was a instant fix... Not sure if this is a option for you but to me it was well worth the money to not get mad at TT everytime I played it (or tried to play it). FYI, I now have a Netgear wireless router. Hope you soon can get back to playing! I am sure the other toons realize whats happening isnt your fault.

If you say Sorry I was delayed, followed by, Welcome to Toontown, most people will understand what happened. I used to get booted from buildings a lot on my old computer. Friends told me that my toon usually kept dancing until the timer ran out. That was another give away that I really wasn't there.

Since ToonTown players are a mix of all types of folks, there's no real set way to predict how someone will respond over unavoidable lags and/or boots. My best feeling is that the better players and people will be aware enough to figure out when connections are at the heart of an issue. I agree, the "leave unexpectedly" phrase is about as good as it ges for speed chat information.
I personally have become a Test Hermit. With the advent of the new things added there, boot-outs and disconnections are a thing to be expected (it is TEST after all... Testing, Testing, 1...2..GONE!). The same can happen at any time on open. Lightning strikes, power outages, hardware malfunctions, etc. all give us the chance to "test our Toon temperaments". Good luck and hang in there.

There's an awful lot of possibilities for the discos. I've had a lot of disco probs myself and I've yet to pinpoint the exact problem, but my discos go in spurts--a couple days of constant discos, then several weeks with none.
Have you tried running a hardwire from your puter to the router? See if it makes any difference? That helped a lot with my discos, but it didn't eliminate the discos altogether. Are you getting booted off TT but not off the net? (This is what's happening to me--I can be running a window with the Internet and another window with TT, and the TT will suddenly say I've lost Internet connection, but the other window on the net is still working just fine.) Try reading this post from another forum - I decided not to mess with pinging stuff on my router yet, but several people said this fixed their constant disco problems:

not much you can do about discos but apologize..
when someone just poofs away I try to notice if it was lagging a few times b4 that person left..
its happened quite a few times... takes awhile to go after everyone picks a gag(or the timers still running down)
when it lags on my part i think im the one thats gonna go poof..
I was just in the mint this morning and we went through the whole thing.. but b4 the supervisor someone went poof...
i say the toon got discoed, my friend said she was a stinky toon(did it on purpose) ...
MOST people understand.. but you cant get them all....
Sorry you lost a friend over it.... but with friends like those ..........

There are many reasons for disconnects:
When you are using a router you should make sure that you have the latest firmware for the router. Once you have determined that you have the latest firmware, you should enable port triggering for ports 6112 and 6667.
Although you can play toontown on a wireless router, you may not have as stable (or as fast) a connection as when you use a wired router.
If anyone is in the market to purchase a new router, I suggest the DLink DGL 4100, which I have happily been using for the past few months. It was so easy to configure, and I have experienced no discos (or lag) since purchasing it. Here's a Link! DLink also makes this router in a wireless version, DGL 4300.
If you are still disconnecting after doing the above, the problem may be with your modem. Hard wire you PC directly to the modem, and see if the disconnects continue. If they do, contact your ISP to replace the modem. I have had my modem replaced twice in the four years since I have been playing Toontown. Although my ISP tested my routers speed and said there was no problem, I insisted they replace it, explaining to them that I play a very packet sensitive online game. The modem worked fine for internet browsing, but caused discos when I played toontown. Once I had a new modem, the discos stopped.
Other things that can cause disconnects: Check to make sure all cables (from modem to router, router to PC etc) are completely plugged into their respective connectors. Take them out, put them back in and listen for a click to make sure they are properly connected.
Windows XP/2000
Test your NIC (network interface card) Go to start/run and type cmd and you will get a black popup box. Type ipconfig /all (there is a space between ipconfig and /all) Find your ip address and then ping the IP address (example ping 192.168.0.124) You should get four replies back. Then type ping 127.1.1.0 and you should get four replies back. If you get replies for both, there is no problem with your NIC (or IP protocol) and your cable is fine too.
Do you have the correct and latest video driver installed? I know that is Disney's famous answer for everything, but having an older video driver will cause disconnects as well.

Happened to me a few times this week. I usually add "I'm stuck" and "sorry" after the "sorry, i had to leave unexpectedly". Smart players understand, chances are they had similar experiences. Those who leave your friend's list, you really didn't need there anyway. It's a game, things happen, right?!

Interesting reading! Thank you!
Hmmm, now I gotta go read and figure out what "firmware" is. Never heard of that one before. First "pinging." Now "firmware." I'm learning all sorts of new, weird stuff on account of TT! (Side question: Why do they call it "pinging" rather than ponging"?)

LOL.. here is some interesting reading about what pinging is: http://kb.iu.edu/data/aopu.html
And for your further reading pleasure...a great explanation of firmware: http://compnetworking.about.com/od/homenetworkhardware/g/bldef_firmware.htm
Happy reading

[b]Thanks to everyone for your advise!! It has been so annoying!! At the end of the month I will start saving for a new router and hopefully will have the problem fixed. I have to go to FL for a wedding the end of this month so I won't be able to do it until then. What am I going to do in FL for a whole week without TOONTOWN??? The thought frightens me!
I did try checking for firmware updates and there were none. Then I check to see my port setting but I couldn't find them. I am not sure if the router is set up right. I hope so! Easist thing to do is buy a new router. I know one of you bought a Netgear router. Is it easy to configure? Someone else bought a D link, Is that user friendly?? I need to start my research now!! Will I need to replace the receptors for the desktops I have or will those find the new router, even though they are not the same brand? Whats the difference between G, Gplus, and the there was another one that was higher? Which is better?
These questions and more coming soon!
Thanks for all your help here everyone!! Any more help would be appreciated!

I had to open these ports in my software firewall as well as the wireless router's settings. If you had more details on the make and model of the router. I might be able to help better.
Once I opened these ports on both the firewall and the router, I saw a 90% improvement.
PORTS (open these):
TCP | UDP:
443 | 443
6112 | 6112
6667 | 6667
These are the ports that the Toontown servers usually use. Unrestricted traffic through these ports should help out. The port forwarding information in the Toontown Central link is helpful as well. It depends on what settings your router will let you modify.
HTH.

I have been booted so many times this weekend. I began to think it was my router since it is hooked up to 2 computers and a xbox 360. I went to try and upgrade my firmware only to be incredibly confused on what to do. It asked me if I wanted to save it or open it, but when I saved it, it asked what program I wanted to use to open it, I have no clue what program to use, so I closed it. Then I went on TT and got the message about the cogs throwing a wrench into the system and now I am wondering if it truly was my router or was it tt being goofy again. I am hoping that it is TT:D

Thanks for the info. I have a Belkin Router. My friend has a dlink she is going to let me borrow it and see if the problem is better. I am wondering if the receptors I added to the desktop computers will work? They are Belkin receptors. We have several computers hooked up to this router. Do you think the # of computers effect how the router works? we have 3 laptops and one desk top.
Also, her router is just a G, not a G+. Does that make a difference?
Thanks again!
