they aren't NEAR as painful as they used to be...ask your orthodontist about the metal bands and Head gear!

And they don't usually have to be on nearly as long...I had them for 3 long years, but...I still have straight teeth many, many years later. It won't last forever!

Almost all my daughter's friends are getting braces. She will be as well.
I watched the whole video and find it incredibly difficult to imagine they didn't diagnose an allergic reaction to her braces earlier. Seems pretty stupid to have missed it. The good news is - that is REALLY, REALLY rare! Probably even more rare than my brother being allergic to pressure (boy was that a hard one to diagnose!)

Braces really aren't so bad, and now they're even kinda fun. My daughter has had braces for 2 years, she gets them off next month . Each month she gets different colored rubber bands to match the season or her mood. She had fun having orange and black bands for Halloween, pink for Valentines, and green for St. Patricks.
Just make sure you take extra care in brushing your teeth and limit your colored soft drinks and coffee/tea - you don't want to have square stains on your teeth when you get them removed .

They're not fun!!! On that note, they're not that bad either. I just got mine about 2 months ago, and haven't really had any problems with them. Spacers, on the other hand, must be the invention of some evil doctor. I couldn't eat anything for a week (french fries were even too hard, and not the crispy kind). You'll be fine, don't worry.

Ooooh, I've had braces.......don't worry, they're not so bad after you get used to them. I don't have them on any more now though. It feels great to have them off, but I can guarantee you will be happy about your smile after they're gone!
You need to make sure you don't have any caramels and very sticky foods, or any hard candy that could break off a bracket. Make sure you clean between brackets of your braces daily, floss a lot, and of course brush your teeth.
The metal on your teeth might feel funny at first, but you'll get used to it very quickly. Oh, I never had this problem, but if your brackets catch on to your gums a lot and make sores, it helps to put some waxy stuff on the side of your mouth. (something to do with wax at least)  But for sure, tell your orthodontist if your brackets catch on to your gums. He/She will probably have something to help with that.
Don't worry!! To make the braces experience better, just remember what the outcome will be. A beautiful, healthy smile!!

Ok, I got my braces about the last year of Middle school and I really didnt like them. They were ok and you get used to them, but you start getting anxious to get them off. I had mine on for 4 years... was only supposed to have them for 2. And I know this is kind of early, but once you get them off, WEAR YOUR RETAINER!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mine broke a few months after I had them and my mom never took me to get new ones so my bottom teeth are terrible again :..(
In my opinion the worst part about it was getting the molds done. @.@ I gagged sooooooooo badly when my ortho. put that gewy stuff in my mouth. Not to mention I was picking it out of my mouth for an hour afterwords... T.T
I didnt think spacers were so bad... they didnt really hurt, just added a bunch of pressure that made it a little irritating, and I disobeyed all the drinking and eating rules XP I ate popcorn, gum, corn on the cob (which is really tricky but it can be done!) and I drank soda and all that good stuff.
The only problem I had was with chewy caramels. BEWARE THE CARAMELS!!! they once took a bracket clean off. and the glue to hold it down tastes gross so it wasnt pleasant having them fix it.
Other than that, good luck!
And about the movie, that condition is really rare so I wouldnt worry about it. You know the first symptom so you know what to look out for. ^_^

I was going to mention the colored bands too!! My husband did this with his braces for all the holidays. Our son was about 2 years old at the time when husband got braces--it was hilarious to see what color he would pick for each visit.
