Bullion mint - little rant
View Single PostView Single Post

I went into the Bullion mint yesterday w/3 randoms. I am always w/randoms because I have no SF Shocked Of course first there is the elevator shuffle, which alway annoys me. Everyone there had over 100 laff pts. I know that this doesn't ensure good players, but they usually have decent gags. I know I still make stupid mistakes sometimes. So the one that keeps hopping on and off tells us he is helping a friend and heying us. So I go ahead and hop off to be nice. Then he tells me shall we go. So I hop on. He keeps saying that he needs more cogbucks. So to get to the point when we get to the end of the mint, he stands back and won't come up to the cogs. By this time I figured it out, but the littlest toon had already engaged the cogs. Well, I'm not going to let them go sad, just because this guy is waiting for an invasion. So I keep passing or luring or tooning up while this other toon keeps throwing gags. The toon who is waiting for the invasion is just speed chatting non stop stinkies to the other toon. Why in the world when you go in w/randoms would you think everyone is going to wait for you?!? What is the protocol in that situation?

You did exactly what I would have done. If anyone engages the final set of cogs, I'm going to join them just to be safe. I'll try to stall as long as possible, but that may or may not work if there's another toon who's not willing to wait. I might say "wait a minute" and "let's catch the next one," but that doesn't always work either. I'm always hoping that it's someone who just doesn't know any better, rather than someone being a jerk on purpose (and sometimes you can tell which it is). I've been in that position (way too many times) of needing the extra bux/merits/etc. and toons wouldn't wait for the next invasion. It makes me mad, too, but it's definitely a risk inherent to the game.

It makes me mad too but I would also join the toon that engaged and tell them they should pass...sometimes they abide...sometimes not...the worst thing about NOT joining that toon that engaged is,if he should be able to clear that last set without you (Pulls out a 7) and you aren't with him...you get NOTHING. I'll join in...NOT help defeat the cogs but I'll be there luring and doodling.

Don't you hate when that happens? You did the right thing Razz

There are many people that seem to think that everyone reads the forums and are aware of the constant invasions in River (the invasions are a result of forum members calling them in that district, not Disney). There are many toons out there that don't know you get double merits/bucks/jn/options during invasions. And of course, there are some that do know but only need a few themselves and don't care that you're working on a million.

In any case, it's no cause for stinking or trying to turn someone green. Join in, wait until the last second, call your doodle and stall. It's a good time to dump an unwanted SOS card (such as restock trap) that takes a bit of time. Post over here "Need invasion NOW, please" or find a friend that you have on IM to call one. If all else fails, realize that getting the normal number of bucks is better than getting none and "Let's play again".

Those of us who've been around for a few years should remember that our first toons maxed out without the luxury of invasions. Be thankful for the ones we get now and don't sweat the ones we miss.

Owoooo! That is sooo right. Miss PoutyFace maxed sell AFTER the cog levels were reduced, BEFORE the merit credit was doubled and BEFORE the invasions started coming regularly in River. So, what did that mean? It meant for the 5500 merit run, you had to do something like 29 FULL factories (and they were uphill both ways!).

I'm with you Lady Coconut - you have to take it on the chin sometimes. Doodling is always a good time waster Smile

Yup took it in a 9 yesterday. That toon knew about invasions though since right at the end they were saying "Sorry" "I need to go" etc. Of course THEY got what they needed. The rest of us were all working big numbers. That's a pet peeve I've ran into before in not only mints, DA's and now cog golf courses. If you don't have time...don't go in! This toon could have easily done a 3 (with invasion) or a 6 (w/o invasion) but chose to do a 9. To make it worse there was a rare 5th toon waiting to do a 9 when we went in.

But yup....you suck it up and just do another one. Later....way later. Maybe next week Very Happy Poor little Nanner maxed Sell and Cash w/o invasions too but now just wants all her keys so I can work on my babies!

A 9??? Now in a Back 9 that's grounds for not only repeated stinkage of the offending toon but throwing the laptop down on the floor and stomping on it!! 9s take way too long to simply "do it again" without at least some ranting!!! Mr. Green

Yes, the one toon who was waiting for the invasion did join us. We did end up getting an invasion at the very end. I am not yet to the point where I need the big numbers but always try to go along w/the crowd. I know I will need them and hope I get some help then!

When you refer to River here, is that the Nutty River district?

Oh trust me some choice words were being said but to myself. Not that I wasn't just as ticked off but it seemed to be a day off of school yesterday and I think that kept my feelings in check a bit (at least out in the open Very Happy) Water off a ducks back or something like that?

Nah....wasn't my laptops fault. (besides it's new Razz) It was the toon who either had Mommy calling or was just a jerk. Welcome to Toontown! Rolling Eyes

Yes, That would be Nutty River. The overflow goes in to Nutty Summit.

Only problem with this suggestion is I've never gotten an invasion reward and I'm a Legal Eagle level 8 suit in Lawbot.
Just my luck I guess. Rolling Eyes Maybe one day I'll get one. Very Happy

I'm a Robber Baron, level 12, and I need 8900 bucks.
I'm exhuasted and tired of going into mints.

So I kind of understand people wanting to wait for an invasion. But I wouldn't let someone
else go sad because I'm not ready to fight the cogs.

This happened to me, except I was the one annoying others. I guess after waiting A HALF HOUR IN NUTTYBORO for an invaions, it's okay to go take on the cogs. I got a little tired of waiting, and challenged the cogs. I couldn't get them lured, and none of the other toons would help me. They just stood there and said "Ha ha" as 2, 3, 4 straight lures missed and I got pummeled. Just as i gave up hope, a lure finally worked. I guess they weren't too concerened as I only had about 24 laff left, but then I used my first ever wedding cake. They all sprinted in, and stunk me forever. Sorry if I don't want to wait for a couple of hours for something I don't need.

Anyone running in Nuttyboro expecting an invasion (without being willing or able to call their own) kinda gets whatever happens. Even Summit I don't expect an invasion and just plan to use one of my own. Problem is I have used all mine up and must plan a CJ marathon to stock back up. River? Forgettaboutit! I never (ok rarely) get in there and the lag and toons are usually so bad it's not worth it......

Umm waiting a half hour for double points when you could have run another in that amount of time makes sense....why????

Yeah it's not nice to not at least join in and lure and at least toon up....but like Nanner said...if they were waiting for an invasion in Nutty Boro...It would have served them right if you had been able to clear them before they joined in. *I* wouldn't wait that long either...I don't blame you. And just a suggestion...I wouldn't worry about the Lure if they weren't helping you,I'd say "I need to go",or "I only have a few minutes" THEN I'd throw the cake and sound anything left, only take one round of damage. Any time some little "Toon Bully"Angry tells me, "*I* Stink?" I tell them "You Rock!","you are awesome", "please be my friend"...and my favorite if you have it..."That's what I'm Talking about!" "Phew!" bteasing29

I don't like to wait longer than a few minutes. It defeats the purpose of the invasion if you wait too long, when you could just go back in I wait longer in a D, and don't plan to do any 9s so that won't apply Smile). Then again I well remember the days before invasions doubled anything besides gag credit, and I'm never in a hurry to max anything anyway so it just doesn't matter that much to me. In fact, I don't worry about them at all if I am running my own toons alone; I just go do what I need to do and then do it again Wink

We ran with a random recently who needed enough to want an invasion, but clearly didn't know, and triggered the cogs. I had suspected he would so we made sure one of us could call one. If we hadn't had any available I'm sure we would have just killed the cogs and moved on.

I would never let a toon go sad because of it. If someone chooses not to join in that's their issue to deal with.

On the subject of double tooning, I would love to do 2 at once, but don't think that I could afford $160 per year. Shocked Granted, I do have more money than most my age, but I'm very frugal and don't spend more than I have to. I also think that sometimes toons go overboard on the whole invasion bit in factroies and such. If you don't get your double merits, bucks, or whatever GET OVER IT.
