Hee hee ME in charge? You really want to see what you come back to? You all have fun the next week while I'm gone and may the spam be with you
BTW Varmint isn't the south east THE place for History? (at least the good stuff Savannah, Charleston etc I'm a southener at heart) Can't wait til mine is a bit older....want to go back to all those places you listed with her.
I'm with Sandra. I just bought a Prius and it is very comfy. Tommy, we have a friend who is 6'6" and he had plenty of room in the drivers seat and the back. It's no louder than my Sequoia and with the radio on who notices? Oh and Sandra I went 450 miles before filling up for $35...beats the $75 for the big car, which we kept.
We are traveling to East Tenn. in June. Not sure which vehicle we are taking yet. Depends on how much stuff we are taking with us.. toothbrush and a swimsuit doesn't take up much space.
I guess the answer to the question is no, it would not stop me from taking the trip.
Then that thing must violate some laws of physics. When I pull up beside that thing in my Altima, it looks like you can put the thing in my back seat and still have room for the kids. They kind of remind me of Yugos. Remember those?
Speaking of the Prius, I came accross this. (has some non-kid-friendly language)
The Kids want to do the History thing...we are in the Southeast... thinking of starting at Kitty Hawk (Wright Brothers Flight) and heading north...Jamestown, Williamsburg, DC and continuing on....
Hey, cool, that's where we're going! When are you going? Won't it be fun to leave Nanner here to do all the work and turn the lights out!
I'd have to say those are great places to visit. We spend the week near Kitty Hawk just down the island in Kill Devil Hills. Just north of Nags Head. I have heard Jamestown and Williamsburg are nice as well lol. Don't forget Yorktown. I don't think there would be any toll roads between you and there either which is nice as BB mentioned something about it. The fun way would be to go over to the Eastern Shore and up north at least more scenic though that bridge does cost money.
[quote="Nanner"]Haven't taken a driving vacation in years. I miss it but flying is much faster and easier on the old(er) parents with a 6 yr old. Will do more local things around the state this summer (yeah the choices in WI are just unlimited Right Bucky)?quote]
I'll have to say that there's a little more in Wisconsin than most might guess. Nanner, if you haven't visited Lambeau Field before, that's a great day trip. My dad, uncle, cousin, and I did that for a day last year. It was about a three hour drive there and another three back, but we had a blast. We got a tour of Lambeau, saw the little hall of fame thing downstairs, and then went to see some spring training practice outside. If you have little kids, there's a kid zone somewhere in it, I just don't know where. Varmint and LadyZ, when are you guys going to the DC area? I'm headed that way this summer as well. I said that I don't have the pocket book for the big trips, but that doesn't mean that I haven't taken my share of long road trips. We're driving to DC (think that's 15+ hours!), last year we drove to Pennsylvania (about 12 hours... 2 long days), and we usually go to Ohio for a week to visit our relatives our there on the Forth (that's a 10 or so hour trip), so I'm used to long hours in the car.
When it comes to vacations, nothing's gonna stop us!
So when are you going to the DC area? We're there several times a year visiting family. If you end up there during a time when we are, I'd love to hook up!
I've only been to Lambeau for a game and that was the "old" Field. (not very far from there) Oddly enough I've never been to Door County but hubby doesn't really want to go (shops shops shops ) Not sure if there is much for the kid to do either. Dells....Daddy wants to take her. I say go for it and I'll stay home with lots of naps It's changed soooooo much from my memory. Huge tourist trap now. Best time to go is in the winter to the water parks (or the casino ) I'm sure she'd love most of it and it would be a good Daddy/Daughter thing to do. House on the Rock I think she's a bit too young for. So far we figure we'll hit the zoo in Milwaukee and Bay Beach in GB....that kind of thing. Little weekenders but during the week when it's less busy. I'm sure we'll come up with a few fun things to do. Then of course there are swimming lessons, she wants to do Karate. If nothing else we'll call up her little cousins and hit Chucky Cheese or the park.
Now you all have me wanting a road trip though!!!!!!
Oh, if you get a chance, go to Chattanooga and see the aquarium, spend a day at the Chickamauga/Chattanooga battlefield parks (I like Chickamauga's better), go up Lookout Mountain-wave at all 7 states, and then of course, SEE ROCK CITY!! Ruby Falls is kinda lame, though. Then, if you're going up to the mountains don't forget Dollywood and Pigeon Forge!
Summer is packed with Girl Scout and Boy Scout Camps and what nots....as of right now we have the last week in May and the first 2 weeks in June or last 2 weeks in July and first week in August as options (available weeks to go). I want to go sooner than later due to the weather. Boy Scout camp actually runs the week of July 4th.
Back on topic: I have always said that gas price wasn't going to prevent me from traveling...it still won't.
Owooo - Tommy! Thanks for the video clip on the Prius. That was hilarious (eep eep)
I have a manly tan color Prius. And, the best part of owning is definitely is laughing at the gas pumps
If you see one, ask the owner if you can sit it in (we're always a friendly bunch). You'll be surprised at the room.
I've got to call the place in Ohio where we plan to go in August. It is a zip-line trail in the forest, but you have to weigh 70 pounds. Emily is only 67 right now, not sure if they will let me just put rocks in her pocket if necessary or not.
(I've been to House on the Rock - weird place! Williamsburg was not my 10 year old's favorite place, although she really enjoyed Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond and seeing the battlefield at Yorktown.)
LOL, that video reminds me of the diesel VW Rabbit we got back in the 70s (during the gas crisis going on there, gas going over $1 a gallon, oof ). It would go from 0 to 50......eventually!!!! And if I had to accelerate up a hill, I had to turn off the A/C to do it!
Oh dear! Now I have to defend the Prius again
I can enter any expressway, anytime, anywhere with no fear. I can accelerate from 0 to 60 just like in any of my other cars. Now, it is not a V6 or anything but it has enough power to get moving when you need to. I wouldn't make any wild passing moves in it, but I'm generally not that kind of driver anyway. I owned a Buick Century for several years that DID have a V6. One time, it totally freaked me out as it went into overdrive while I was passing on a backroad. I was so surprised, I almost put on the brake .
I've been up to 85 mph in it (this is not recommended in any car as it is above the speed limit, so you kids out there just ignore this statement!). It cruises just fine. However, it does take a bite from the gas mileage.

Oh, I love that area. We were thinking of taking the kids to Gatlinburg this year, but they are only 4 and may not even remember it. We took them to Disney last year and they'll never remember it so we've decided to stay close to home for the next couple of years. We live in a pretty awesome city, when it's not 20 feet under water anyway. there is alot they still haven't seen around here.
Plus, gas prices are insane right now. If the kids were older I don't think it would stop us, we'd probably eat out less(a trip to the local Winn dixie will do just fine) . The drive last year was bad enough.

You'd be surprised what your kids will remember.
I went to Disney World when I was 4. I still remember that. (30 odd years later.) My son is 9, and remembers stuff that we don't. He is dead on accurate when we stop and think about what he was saying.
