Sorry Princess Boo Boo, but I want Sid the Kid and the Penguins to win. I know Detriot is probably the closest team to my location (no NHL team in the cheese state), but I like Crosby.

Yeah, that was a bit of a beat down, and that's coming from someone that really doesn't watch hockey.

Naturally, the RedWings would beat down the Penguins.
I was away and couldn't watch the game

Well, the Penguins are young and inexperienced, and the Red Wings are comprised of more veterans.

The Wings played again last night, swept the Pittsburgh Penguins with a win 3-0...Heehee!!

I just had to show the shot of the game!!! Valtteri Filppula (A Finn) got this shot in....totally amazing!

No. 1 star: Valtteri Filppula, Detroit Red Wings
Game 2 wasn't much to look at, but Filppula was kind enough to hand highlight show producers a decent clip to tease the Penguins-Red Wings package. With the game still hanging in the balance, at least according to the scoreboard, Filppula grabbed a pass from Johan Franzen and broke in on Penguins defenseman Kris Letang. A slick inside-outside move tied the rookie in knots, then Filppula beat Pittsburgh goalie Marc-Andre Fleury stick side with what amounted to a diving shot. Well played, Valtteri. Like Mikael Samuelsson in the series opener, Filppula had a two-point night to provide the Red Wings with some secondary scoring, key when top line forwards Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk have their hands full neutralizing Pittsburgh's big guns.

Let's not forget OZZY!!

No. 3 star: Chris Osgood, Detroit Red Wings
Osgood is the first goalie to start the finals with back-to-back shutouts since Martin Brodeur in 2003 against the then-Mighty Ducks. So why is he stuck down here after the jump in No. 3-star territory? Well, Ozzie was good Monday, but it's hard to lay claim to making any game-saving stops when your team leads 2-0 before you've turned aside a single puck. Plus nobody seemed all that impressed with the feat when Brodeur pulled it off, anyway. They went and gave the Conn Smythe to a member of the losing team that year. Bottom line: Osgood hasn't made any mistakes (and he dresses up an interference call pretty effectively, too). The same can't be said about his counterpart on the other end of the ice. Interesting fact that we're pretty sure is true: The Penguins haven't scored upon the Red Wings since 2005.

So...the Wings lead the series 2-0. They're playing some good hockey....sweeping them!!!

One more game is all that's needed for Detroit to be holding the Stanley Cup once again!
Monday night, 8pm Eastern is the next (and final..yes, I'm very optimistic) game.

This will be the Wings 11th Stanley Cup.

Here's a picture from yesterday's game...Jiri Hudler's goal, the clincher to a 2-1 victory Saturday...

PBB- you aren't going to write about the amazing triple overtime last night?

The Redwings lost in triple overtime, while they were a man short. This was an incredible game. I have to wonder at the final outcome. IF _____________(redwing) didn't lose control of his stick and slice __________ (penguins) face....
would the Wings have won?

I mean a 4 minute penalty after you have been on the ice for that many hours is devastating.
I wonder how bad the dude was beaten up in the locker room?

What an awesome final game
I cannot believe the Penguins almost tied it up in the last second!
Great goal tending to Osgood!

It was a great game only I wish they hadn't had that extra goal because of the goalie falling on it and knocking it into the net. I know this is a totally ligit thing but it seems like such a cheap win. I so wish they had won in the triple OT on Monday night...that penalty killed them because I bet it would have went into another OT if he hadn't done that...HELLOOOO...what in the world was he thinking?!?

Oh well, all in all a great series they all skated great and of course the best team won!!!

Since you bring it up:

Yes, let's not!! Evil or Very Mad Of particular note is at 1:45 of this clip when, like the true cowardly "cat" that he is, he cheap shots Ribeiro with the butt of his stick which required stitches for the gash above his eye that it caused.

Link

He's a good goalie, I'll give him that. But he deserves all 5'2" of his punk*** beaten down for stuff like that! But as good a goalie as he is it pales compared to what a great actress he is! Rolling Eyes Trust me "his counterpart at the other end of the ice" isn't envious of very many of his talents. I guess he's lucky to have pulled through. Rolling Eyes

The bottom line is he's a disgrace and should have been suspended instead of only fined.

I think the bottom line here is.....it's hockey!!!!!!!!! It happens...I don't think that Ozzy is a disgrace, by all means no. I'm sure any and or all players do things that they get away with all the time. IT'S HOCKEY, what do you expect? He's a GREAT goalie, and lead his team to victory...now stop your bellyaching....just need something to rain on someone else's parade again, huh boots?

(Editorial note: Overly dramatic punctuation and/or formatting removed for brevity. Rolling Eyes )

Being that you're clearly a Detroit fan I had absolutely no delusions of being able to change your view of him. However, since you spoke so glowingly of him I thought I'd present the other side of him (with video evidence (that old picture worth a thousand words thing there Wink)) and let anybody capable of being objective decide for themselves what kind of goalie/person/sportsman he really is.

Quote:
IT'S HOCKEY, what do you expect?

I guess I expect more than some little pipsqueak coward in 50 lbs of protective padding sticking his stick in somebody's face after the game has ended for doing nothing more than skating behind the net. (I'm not sure falling to the ground in artificial death throes worthy of the William Shatner Award for Great Acting is really part of hockey either...but I suppose there we have different expectations too. Confused )

But if, as you pretend to believe, that's really part of hockey: Why was he fined for doing it? Hooking/boarding/elbowing/fighting are all part of hockey but when that happens you don't see monetary fines levied. Why do you suppose that is? Rolling Eyes

I'm not sure if all the sarcasm was needed for 8 exclamation marks. Just sayin' Wink

First off, after seeing the video, yeah, it was a cheap shot by the goalie. But if one of the Red Wings wouldn't have grabbed the arms of the guy (Ribiero?) swinging the stick (was it called slicing?), it wouldn't have hit him in the pads. Did the goalie deserve it? If I was in his place, I'd probably do the same thing as the guy doing the slicing (sp?). I'm not a big hockey fan, but I've seen clips every now and then and seen guys get roughed up with teeth missing, busted jaws, bloody noses, constant fighting. Cheap shots seem to be the order of the day in hockey.

You asked a good question, Boots. Why is what the goalie gets fined for that, when none of what you mentioned (Hooking/boarding/elbowing/fighting) is fineable (sp?)? Any of those items can result in stitches and injuries as well. I just don't see the difference. Again, let me iterate that I don't think what the goalie did is/was/will be in a future time right. But what is the difference in that goalie's cheap shot than any other cheap shot delivered by any other hockey player?
