Downloading / Installs -- Warning and Reminder
View Single PostView Single Post

They say the 3rd time is a charm...hopefully the post will stick...and I can remember what I wrote Mr. Green

You don't need to install or run any ActiveX controls to use this Site. I'm getting random requests to Download / Install software when accessing TTF. Please verify any ActiveX requests from any Site you come across on the web.

Is anyone having any problems?

I'm getting redirected to a Russain Site random when using TTF. Hopefully DR Skids can resolve this quickly.

I got a prompt on my computer to do the same and of course denied it. Evidently my son has different anti-virus protection because when I went to TTF on his computer the software downloaded without a prompt. It is Malware Protector 2008. I have sent Brady a pm. I have no idea what this spyware does, but his computer has crashed repeatedly and my anti-virus shows unhealable trojan viruses. Another TTF member received the download automatically simply by clicking on a link to a thread from here in an earlier private chat. I know nothing about how to fix this except that I have one computer that is down so it seems pretty [durn] dangerous to me. Hopefully my friend will be able to remove it and walk me through it without me having to pay someone to do it. I am frustrated beyond belief - so if anyone has advice - please give it.

Edit: Just checked and both of my computers have the same virus protection. So I have no idea why it downloaded without prompt on his and not mine? Also no idea when 2 friends clicked on the link I sent, one did receive the prompt and the other didn't.

Yes I am having problems. I went to visit site last night before going on toontown and I got a security warning. So and so wants you to install...it was so fast I could not read it. Then my identity theft software went nuts, malware detected. Said it had stopped threat XMWC.EXE. I have a big yellow warning on my desktop that there is spyware on my computer. Call Identity theft people last night - no help. Tried system restore - no help. had stopped all internet transfer with my computer. Started it back and tried this site and got some russian writing, quickly closed out of all that. Have been messing around this morning to try and figure something out. No luck still have big yellow warning box on desk top. Well rats guess I'll have to wait til tonight when I have time to sit on phone with dell for a couple of hours. Decided to check this site again and hey it came up. I don't know what is going on but ....what a ...drag.

Edit: LVTP - Yes that is what I have had happen. Downloaded without prompt apparently and Malware Protector 2008 has suddenly appeared. Scans say everything is okay but Still have warning box and no idea what to do. My computer is working now unlike immediatly after but is it okay? IDK.

I have used this before: http://vil.nai.com/VIL/stinger/
I downloaded it and then disconnected from internet and then scanned my system using it a couple of years ago when I had a problem. I also run it sometimes just to verify that I'm being protected....

Here is the description of Stinger:

McAfee Avert Stinger
Stinger is a stand-alone utility used to detect and remove specific viruses. It is not a substitute for full anti-virus protection, but rather a tool to assist administrators and users when dealing with an infected system. Stinger utilizes next generation scan engine technology, including process scanning, digitally signed DAT files, and scan performance optimizations.

My av software detected something and I thought it was a false positive. About a month and a half ago, it detected Toontown itself as unsafe and wouldn't load.

Anyway, I use superantispyware.com to get rid of spyware/malware. It is the best program I've ever used and I've tried many. They have a free version that works well.

Well that explains the odd thing I got yesterday as well. Thought I had just pushed some weird button. I just hit back and it was OK. There was nothing popping up though. Hmmm now I wonder if I need to check my computer. Not sure what the russians want with our nice little TTF site. Surprised

I am running a virus scan and it shows I have one so far. "JS/Downloader.Agent" located on my temporary internet files. Maybe everyone should delete history, cookies etc., just to be safe

I was prompted that TTF wanted me to install something at that log in screen....I had ignored it, and it seems to be running just fine. The other day, I had randomly clicked on the screen while logged into TTF, and I was redirected to some foreign site, something with a K on the screen. I just X'd out of that, and had to restart TTF, I thought it was strange though.

I always delete my cookies, just about daily....delete all, just something I've gotten into the practice of doing.

Brady fixed something to get rid of the other page and it must have messed up something else. He said he would dig deeper when he gets home tonight.

LVTP I found a setting on mine that asked if I wanted a warning before downloading anything...I suspect your other PC may not have something like that checked.

I just got the Russian site when I clicked the new posts thing. I X'd out and my McAfee popped up and said that it blocked something from happening. This time, I didn't click new posts. I probably won't for a few days until I hear that it is fixed.

Ok, on both my work and home computer, when I press the back button while on TT, nothing happens. So I clicked on the arrow by my forward and back button and I see 4 sites that I didn't go to, It lists 3pigs.info/t/?19688a2f but the last 8 characters are different on each one. Then after the 4 listed are the last 3 toontownfriends pages I was at last.

Last night I clicked on the forums and got that Russian site too. I didn't see any active X requests either here or at work so I don;'t know about that. When I clicked the forum button now, I received this message: Fatal error: Call to undefined function: suggest_topic() in /hsphere/local/home/bradyb/toontownfriends.com/index.php on line 173.

I don't know if this info will help anyone out there to fix this but I had to pass it along, just in case!

I've gotten it 3 times already. Both in IE and firefox. My anti-virus stuff is screaming at me all over the place. (I didn't have it loaded the first time so it actually went to my computer) Trojan. No active X thing popping up here either. I was only sent to the weird site the first time but it's still coming back.

So far it doesn't seem to have done any damage as everything is working ok.

Well after two hours on with Dell, I am clean. Just not smart enough not to come back on this site!! It is a trojan virus, i believe is what she said. Even though my anti-spyware etc was aware of it they did not stop it. The nice lady from Dell asked if the bugs had run across my desk top eating it yet. I said no unless I missed it. She seemed very serious. I have an on call software support thing from Dell I purchased and need to use my allotted incidents up before a year passes anyway. Would have no idea how to fix it myself. Hope it works out for everyone else as well.
