| Mister C.W. : | | One Trickytoon : | uh oh. I have a question. I do not run anti-virus software at all on any of my computers or laptops, should I be concerned with this virus? I have not expierenced any problem on any of my equipment yet but figured I'd ask.
Thanks,
Glenn |
This is a pet hate of mine so please forgive me if I rant on for a bit.
If you have no regard to protect your computer and do not mind giving out your bank details to anyone that you meet including security codes please bear in mind the risk that you pose to all that are in your address book.
Basic security is free but you may want to invest in some good software to protect yourself and those that you may email.
I have seen a computer connected to the internet with no protection compromised by a virus in 20 seconds. I have spent hours trying to sort out problems on other poeples computers froim just this type of neglegance.
Now I just ask them what anti virus protection they use and if it is up to date. If like you they reply none I just tell them to buy another computer. £30 ($60) is not a large amount of money to pay out to protect upto 3 computers for a whole year. It is people like you that enable to criminal elements on the net to flourish.
Rant over.
If you would like some advice as to what software you con install on your computer to try and reduce the risk of infection please PM me and I will try to help you out. |
I think this is totally uncalled for. Saying that because I choose to not run and anti-virus on my computers and others that do not run software is allowing criminal elements to flourish IMO is like saying everyone who chooses not to be a police officer is allowing criminals to flourish on the street. I would like to thank the people that responded to my question with their non-bashing answers. I HAVE avg 8.0 free edition on all my computers and laptops,I just don't have them running all the time. I ran the programs on two that I thought may be infected and they are cleaned. Still have to run on 2 more. My rant over.

Glenn,
heard the one about shutting the stable door before the horse bolted?
I can think on no valid reason not to run anti virus software on the WWW
Some light reading for you http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_virus
Well the problem on TTF has been fixed so again thanks to Dr skids. I think This thread is just about done now.
See you in TT

Is this a result of a Trojan?: My personal settings were replaced by a temp folder. They are still on my computer, but now I have to copy every folder of my personal settings and put them in the temp folder(and there are a lot of folders to do that to). Also, I can't just put the one folder that they are all in in temp because, when it's copying the files, it finds one that it has a problem with, and immediately stops the copying.Your answers are greatly appreciated.

I wish I had seen this earlier! I couldn't get on our computer because some spyware thingy got on our computer and caused a virus. We did get the Trojan, too. We spend SO long trying to get our computer back to normal. Ugh! It's fine now at least, phew!

I am looking into a new hosting provider since it seems this one is inept at security.

I am still having some problems with my school computer. It pops up and says auto protect something and then shows Trojan, but I can't click on the remove risks now button. I don't have all the admin powers being as it's my school one and not sure what kind of protection it has. How can I find out what it runs for virus protection and how can I get this to stop popping up? Sometimes it says cleared but is that the virus doing it or is it actually my anti virus protection? lol I'm confused a bit.

I have AVG Pro 8 and it wouldn't even let me into the site. Once the main site was clear, I was getting warnings and prillian was blocked...And still is right now. Or is again.

We tried to uninstall Zone Alarm security to try to get Toontown to work. That didn't help, and we couldn't get Zone Alarms back. Well, after like a month or too, we decided to get a Kapersky trial (after our computer almost shut down for good ). After Kapersky did its first scan, we found tons of trojans (and adware, but that's just annoying). There were only 2 elusive ones, and another one that could only be quarentined.I don't seem to receive virues of any type from this site.
A question for all of you that have been getting trojans and the like. Has this happened BEFORE the site closed down that one weekend to move?
