I'd never heard of a drive thru liquor store either until Yankee Man mentioned it... I think those are a good reason why those Yankees can't drive! Razz

I think the drive through liquor stores are a midwestern phenomenon. We used to go to them all the time for sodas, snacks and of course the adult beverage (they were put in the trunk.) They were effectively snack and beverage drive throughs - except you actually drove through it (they were usuall converted garages).

I don't see them up here in New England at all, unless I missed something. Smile

They don't have any in this part of Ohio, but when I lived in central Ohio they were everywhere. Didn't use them for the adult beverages, but they were great when you just needed a gallon of milk or a loaf of bread and it was 5 degrees out! When Allie and I discovered them she was 4 years old and just thought they were they coolest thing ever. Needless to say we drove through the one by our house about a dozen times that first weekend.

Another thing I find interesting in the US is finding liquor in the grocery store. In Canada alcohol sales are highly government regulated and in my province you could only buy it in a government liquor store. In the last few years you could buy beer and wine in the beer and wine stores that aren't government run stores.

So drive through? No way unless you count the guy who drives his truck into the front window and grabs what he wants before he takes off.

LOL Audrey!! Actually, most grocery stores around here only sell beer and wine, no liquor.

In Oregon it's state regulated stores for liquor (and they close too dang early too). Grocery stores are strictly wine and beer and funky hybrids like Mike's Hard Lemonade.

Amen to the early closing hours! Mike's Hard Lemonade, pretty good stuff, in moderation. I don't do "malt" adult beverages very well, and don't like the sweet ones.

Boy - I tell you. A Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant just opened around here. Some of their drinks come with a whole puppet show! I'm tempted to get one just to give my daughter all the cute things on top Smile

In Louisiana - at least in the New Orleans area - grocery stores sell EVERYTHING! Some put the expensive stuff at customer service, I guess to avoid shoplifting....our Winn-Dixie has the RED BULL back there too, I guess that item tends to walk off! Shocked

Some funny things about liquor sales in the states I've lived in

1. In TX, you can buy all your needs in a drive thru. Any day, any time, any age? (I was 17 when I moved from TX LOL).

2. In IN, the liquor stores close on election days. I guess they want you to be sober when you vote.

3. When we first moved to TN, I went to the liquor store to buy beer. After searching all over the store and not finding any, I asked the clerk. Apparently they are not allowed to sell beer and hard liquor in the same store. I was told I could go get the beer at the gas station Rolling Eyes

4. In CT, liquor stores close at 9pm. It used to be 8 but they extended it an hour a year or so ago. They are also closed on Sundays. It was a big deal the year July 4th fell on a Sunday, the state made an exception and let the stores open. You can also buy beer at the grocery, but not wine or other alcohol. Some people drive to NY to get their Sunday beer if they forgot to stock up on Saturday.

Geesh, I know all the stuff and I don't even LIKE beer LOL.
