Video Camera Question
View Single PostView Single Post

Hi,

My Father had a YASHICA Video Camera Recorder 8
Model # KD-M770U

He gave it to me to give to one of the grandkids. Only one of the tapes is used and on it is my Mother. I don't think my Father realized this when he gave me the camera.

My Mother passed away almost ten years ago. I would like to take this tape and have it put on another format, DVD, etc.

With all the brilliant minds on this site, I thought maybe one of you could help me. Where could I take this tape to have it put on another format and is it even doable to put it on a DVD?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I know there is computer programs where you hook up the camera (some way)? and then burn to DVD. Can edit and all that fun stuff. I was always going to get one as I have a zillion 8's around here. Quite a few with my Mother on too. (gone 8 yrs now) Hope we get a recommendation as my tapes (as yours is) are quite old and I don't want to lose any! I think (??) taking them someplace can get costly???? Finally put the 8 recorder in moth balls and got a DVD camera.

The easiest way is Pinnacle's Dazzle. It's a small device that plugs into your camcorder (or vcr for old home movies), and the other end of the plug goes into your pcs usb port. It also includes software that lets you easily transfer the movie and even edit it and add effects, if you want to.

You can get the box at your local retailer ($49.99 for the standard quality version), and it includes all you'll need.

There are definitely places that will do it for you. There is an electronics repair place near me that does it so I assume that type of place is where you would try first?

Alternatively, there are video cards that would enable you to capture it yourself. Capturing DV is easy enough but to capture some of the older stuff what I had to do was go through a VCR. Heh, I ran around to all kinds of electronics stores looking for some kind of RCA->Coax adapter until I realized that pretty much any VCR did exactly that. Embarassed
