February 15, 2007 [sv1.0.25.7.test]
Attention Test Toons over age 13! We need you to go above and beyond, and help us test using your TEST Toontown account and chat in the new Disney XD on Disney.com!
Here's what we need you to do:
Log into play.test.toontown.com and verify your account name and password. It is possible that you may be prompted to choose a new account name. If so, please go ahead and complete that process. Do not start playing Toontown yet!
Go to Disney XD on Disney.com and log in using your Toontown TEST account name and password and create a D-Name.
Set your chat permissions in DXD to allow True Friends (was Secret Friends.)
Exchange DXD True Friend Codes (was Secret Friends) with people you know. You'll then be able to Chat with your True Friends no matter where either of you are in the Disney.com network, including from within Toontown.
Once you have some True Friends we want you to check out the new Friends List features.
Friends listed in green are SpeedChat friends, and those listed in blue are True Friends (was Secret Friends) who you can chat openly with. This color scheme better matches the colors of the OpenChat and SpeedChat buttons.
Friends listed in BOLD are account friends across the Disney.com network. These are known in Toontown as Player Friends and can be either green SpeedChat friends or blue True Friends, which can chat openly.
The Friends List also has new tabs:
Online Toon Friends - This list only your Toontown friends who are currently online, by Toon name.
All Toon Friends - This lists all of your Toontown friends, by Toon name.
Online Player Friends . This list only your Disney.com account friends who are currently online, by D-Name.
All Player Friends . This lists all of your Disney.com account friends, by D-Name.
Each Friends List tab now sorts alphabetically within each color group.
Please try out the new features and let us know what you think! Be sure to report any bugs via our Report a Bug page!

We have been playing around with this some this morning, and it is still quite buggy. I see quite a few drawbacks, if you share an account with a child, anyone on your xd list is able to sf chat with them. Also, there is no way to have a "hiding toon" from anyone who you have on your xd list. So far I only have exchanged xd codes with people that already know all of my toons and are sf on at least some of them. When someone logs in to test, they are automatically logged on to XD. I know there are times when I just want to water my forest, and not chat with people... (first cup of coffee) and I generally log on to a toon that doesn't have many toons logged on, but with the xd, no matter what toon you or they are on, they will be on your list.

hey I think I figured it out.... You go to the disney site, click on DXD located on the top bar thingy. On the top right hand corner u will see a icon that says u can log in there. Click on it and a window will pop up prompting u for a password and username....put in your test account username and password....after that it might ask u to create a username for the disney XD site....once you are looged in....on the top right hand corner there will be an icon that says friends click on it and a window will open up....the window will have a button on it that says "open friends maker" click on that button. When you do that u will have two options to choose from make a true friends code or redeem a true friends code. Once you get a code you can pass it on to a friend on toontown. I think that's what they want u to do???? lol....Then the person that gets the code from u puts the code in the "redeem a true friends code" thing and they will show up on your toontown friends list in a different section made for the XD.....am I right? lol......any other ideas on this one??

I checked out some of the DX stuff and it is kind of neat. I am sure the kids will love it. I did post a bug report though and I think all Canadian testers should too. Some of the video content is not available to people outside the US. Since Disney has a lot of Canadian subscribers I think they need to fix that.

I really don't like the fact that my sfs would now be able to chat with my kids, and like Skip I sometimes just get on for a minute and don't really want to be sociable. That I could get past, but we don't have separate accounts for the kids (there are kids' toons on all three accounts). I can think of very few people I would want to put on XD for that reason, of course they are the ones with the most toons on my list so if it helps make room then at least it's something!
I don't really know how I would suggest they solve this. Seems we're just never happy are we!

I guess I will have to find my actual Test password (computer saves it, so I don't have a clue) and make an XD whatever for myself. At least my daughter doesn't have a toon on my test account. She has played some of the stuff on the page and makes me do the Toontown quizes for her to earn points!

I have decided not to use the Xd thing. I have dabbled around with it and it would be a waste of time for me. If you are a die-hard "chatter", then the universal chat is cool. As for me.....the LAST thing I want is someone on my chat messaging me about something while I am trying not to die in the CFO! When I first started Toontown, I made lots of friends with Fat Knuckles. But....you get to a point where you "play" with your friends and make new ones in the Mints and Boss Battles. I can't tell you how many "friends" I have deleted that I could not even remember them in the first place. So.....I have cleared my list of all friends except 2-3 (not counting SF). I also "wake up" while gardening and agree that sometimes....you don't want anyone messaging you. They should incorporate a "Invisible Status" button so you could hide and do what you want to do!
As far as the Disney videos our Canadian friends can't view.......let me tell you what they are. The first one is a video from our government showing how we plan to annex everything except Quebec and plunder your huge reserves of natural resources like beer and moose.
The second video is some teeny-bopper telling us what "he" likes about Disney!
One of the descriptions is a lie.....you have to figure out which one!
LOL
The videos are "stars" from disney shows (I Think) aimed at getting kids interested in the new site. I "X" them out because I don't care !
BTY...I like Canada!
Good day!
-Matt

WHATEVER!
I don't have time to play with this until tonight so I have a couple of questions for those of you who have.
First I agree. Don't like that it is for ALL your toons! My kid has her own account so that's not it. It's the "sometimes I just wanna be left alone to play on my baby toons" thingy. Nothing against my lovely friends here but down time is needed by all of us!
Am I correct to assume?:
You first have to log into it to show you are there EVERY time you log in or only do it once and it's always there?
When they say "online" does that mean a Disney site or online in general? Like if I was here or reading email or something it would work?
You have to get a new code even from your SF's?
WHERE ARE THE PIGS????????????
Addition: If you don't think the DX if for you and do nothing will your friends list work as is?

This is a link to a thread on TTC http://www.toontowncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=137930
And this is the post that caught my eye:
| Quote: | As it is currently implemented dxd friends arent terribly usefull. If a dxd true friend is on a toon that your toon is not friends with, the following statements apply:
Their toon name will show up in bolded blue on your online toons friends list.
You cannot teleport to the toon unless you are already next to them.
You cannot read that toons sf chat or their sf bubbles (you see animal sounds)
You cannot sf whisper to them (the blue button is grayed out)
You dont see the log in or out message for that toon.
The only option not grayed out for online players is whisper.
You can sf whisper to the dxd nickname(they will see your whisper as coming from your dxd nickname)
If a True friend whispers to you you cant click on the message bubble to reply. You need to click on the whisper button on that players icon in your online player friends list.
You can speedchat whisper to the toon from different areas in tt.
You see the dxd nickname log in message when that player logs onto toontown and onto a toon, iff they werent logged on to dxd first.
If you look at toon details for a dxd friend's toon, you see their dxd nickname listed below the toons name, above the gags. There is also a show player button that opens the friends list to that player.
Oh, and you dont need to run dxd in the background. After you make friends you can quit dxd. The above statements apply whether you were logged into dxd or not. |
I was on several times today testing this with just my own 2 accounts, and ugh, I hope they do some work on this! If it's anything like this in the end, it really is not going to be helpful to me, anyway.
The worst part is having access to the entire account. Many players have only one account which is shared between family members. Bad enough that we can't set sfs options differently for each toon in an account, but that was acceptable and there's the compromise of asking for the password each time if you like. This will expose my 5 year olds to the same teen friends my teen has and the same adult friends I have. Not that I have any friends I'm worried about - that's not the point. Also even in the one account where they are all my toons, I don't necessarily want someone to have access to all of them. Finally, if it's really that difficult as in the post above, it will be too much for me to even bother with. I can't have anything else open while I play TT - even a Google page causes lag. And it was TT who told me I needed to close everything else! Overall it sounds way too complicated - for me, anyway.
(Sent the above comments to Disney)
Edit: I have not tested the things stated in that post, but as soon as I can I will, and the results will be filed as a bug report.
