Router question
View Single PostView Single Post

Sort of off topic, but didn't feel like making a new post. It is tech related.

Being the nice toon mom that I am, I set up a second account yesterday so I could move my son's toon over. He seemed excited about being able to play with me as his toon has been neglected. I went and bought a wireless router so one of us could use my laptop. I managed to set up both computers to run off the wireless router. I start playing my toon on the desktop and am disconnected twice after being on for a few minutes. So I switch back to the old, nonwireless router and have no problems. So what's the question, well I need to be able to hook up the laptop to the wireless and leave the desktop as is (hubby uses the router for the xbox). I'm thinking I can buy a splitter and run the two routers off the cable modem. Is this possible? I'm really at a loss here. I guess I have a few days to play around with it before my son's toon is officially moved. Or is it this bandwith (sp?) stuff I keep hearing about. I know some of you run two toons at one time and may be able to offer some help.

My father has suggested I speak to people in India to help set up a new name and password for the router. He drew me a lovely diagram on a napkin of my setup. Wish I could post it? You'll have to forgive that as he is an engineer. Very Happy

All I know is, I had to move my second desktop so that it could be plugged in. I dropped constantly on wireless. The laptops do fine; never a problem. I know someone else should be able to help you more, well, I didn't really help at all, did I? Razz

You will have so much fun playing with your son. Plus, if they are right next to each other you will soon start to double toon and talk to yourself! Welcome to the club! Very Happy

Thanks PTT for moving it. Smile

Thanks for the effort but the people in India may be more help. Very Happy Do they have toontown there? I'm going to fiddle with it tomorrow in case anyone has any real solutions, lol. Do multiple personalities come with that as well? (that is intended as a random comment and any similarities to any of you is purely coincidence)

Um, no, you develop the multiple personalities over time. Trust me, you won't even notice, and you won't be able to stop it so don't try! Wink

Well, I have to thank a little brown monkey who helped point me in the right direction with real solutions. I tried all the port triggering and forwarding stuff. Whether I did it right is another question. I did manage to have two toons on and run one through a factory. The real test will be a boss battle as I was dropped twice before trying all this stuff. I'm still not sure about the firmwear (sp?). Anything to make me more firm has got to be worth a try. Very Happy Well, I'm waiting for this call from India still. Apparently they are pretty busy. If I find out anything else, I will post it. Maybe that cute little monkey can help as well. Thanks!

Ok, I guess I will update so everyone can stop trying to help me. I have given up on wireless and hooked everything up to the old non wireless router. Of course the laptop has to be close now, but that isn't a big deal as I can't develop alter egos with it far away. Of course, the better half now thinks I'm completely nuts. Shocked He isn't buying the "it's for the boy and I to play together, bit."

Just wondering which is worse, having multiple personalities or talking to someone's MP differently? (punctuation police I need help here) You do know that Bea is my favorite. Very Happy

I am still not sure what it is, but this link was given to me by Banana Brain. I'm not sure how to make it work as a link. I'm sure someone can fix it for me.

I recall seeing another link on this at another time.... I do have a wireless router and was experiencing disconnects some time ago. The issue was resolved after being walked thru "how to open the correct port" on my wireless router. He did the ping thing and all that too Razz Now he is off playing WoW...there goes my tech support Rolling Eyes

Anyhow, think I will start searching for the information.
