I'm confused.
Does this mean I have to catch my friends online in order to exchange a TrueFriends code so that we'll always be able to see each other, no matter what toon we're on? That would be not-so-cool if I suspect that one of my old friends is only playing an entirely different toon and we always miss each other. Is that the way it works though?
I also don't like the new A-Z sort order. It was so much better to have them sorted by login date. I guess we'll see what the future brings.

Question # Two: I have my first XD friend now. I can chat with her through player, but only speedchat through her toon (which wasn't on my friends list). Anyone know how to change that?

I have 2 people on open that I have made TRUE FRIENDS with...Kath and another.
Now, when Kath logged out from DXD, I was still able to chat with her, seeing that she was still on TT.
So, with that, I told my other friend that you didn't need to be logged in on DXD, but as soon as he logged out of DXD, poof, he was logged out on TT true friends list also...not sure what was different.
So, you should be able to talk to someone even though they are not logged in on DXD, right? In this case, it's a no...

Should absolutely be able to! The issue we were having was we could talk to each other as friends, but both our toons were not visible to each other, as if neither one of us was logged into TT. Where it should say, "World: Toontown Online" it only said XD. So we were not able to TP to each other or anything. Which defeats the purpose, but hopefully all those are just temporary bugs.

Just an FYI ....
Not wanting to muck up my main TT account because at the time I wasn't sure what I was doing, I did the XD thingy first on my secondary TT account. No problems except for the one mentioned above that PTT kindly resolved for me 
Late Sunday tried the XD on my main account. I used my Account ID and "PARENT PASSWORD". All I kept getting was my log-in failed, failed, failed, lol.
Had to wait till Monday to call Disney. I was lucky and got a very nice lady who took her time with me. XD would not accept my "Parent Password"!!! They verified all my personal information and then had me use the "kid friendly password" and it worked, lol, go figure (see the year of my birth 1804 was what clued them in that I was an adult).
So if anyone out there is having log-in problems, try both passwords.

I don't think I'll deal with XD. I tried to log on last night and just couldn't figure it out. None of my usernames and passwords worked. When I asked them to send me a list of accounts to my email, I got three, two of them with long numbers and letters, I should only have two.
What a mess.
