Whatcha wanna talk 'bout?
Pet Peeve! Two toons running past me standing in front of a bld for a long long long time. They go to the next bld and stand there. Nobody is TPing to them (as I first thought they were waiting for friends) After checking laff and gags I realize they are....are you ready for this? FIVE laff higher than the toon I was on (my gags were better )!!! GASP! So instead of helping my poor little toon and the 3 of us getting it done they decided that I wasn't worth their time and they stood alone....waiting. On the plus side MY bld was first in the street so other toons came by me and off we went while they were still waiting. HA!

Pet Peeve:
I hate it when you fall asleep and people start pushing you into buildings, cogs, etc. I think thats extremely rude! I occasionally get pushed around at the TTF runs, but thats a totally different thing.

Okay, I can handle typos on a message board, it happens when you are trying to type and get the message done.
Yesterday I received my little guy's IEP. For those who don't know, an IEP is an Individualized Education Plan. Since he is special needs, it spells out his goals, his getting speech therapy, etc. This document was LOADED with spelling errors! It was amazing that they didn't use spell check as it would have caught all these errors.
The other Pet Peeve in the document is that they kept referring to him by a nickname. So say his name was Michael, they would have Michael Smith at the top of the page, but refer to him as both Michael and Mikey in the document. For some reason with him I don't refer to him as much as "Mikey" as I do "Michael."
Another Pet Peeve - drivers who do not understand right of way on the roads then get upset because they nearly cause an accident due to that.
Also - bill collectors constantly called for someone who doesn't have this phone number! We've lived here 5 years (as of Sept 1st) and we get calls all the time for a particular woman and sometimes a man (no relation between the two it appears). I answer these calls thinking I forgot to pay something and thankfully realize I'm fine - phew!

Oh man, don't get me started on IEP's. LOL We've been doing them for the last 10 years. First year, the teacher photocopied all the kids IEP's (same goals for various disabilities from autism to emotionally disturbed) and "whited-out" their names, and wrote in the name of your kid. The school district didn't think that was a problem. I guess it was individual since his name was on it. I've got a million more war stories regarding IEP's. I have also got a few good stories where cooperation instead of intimidation by the school really worked.
Okay...getting off my soap box.

Forget spell check! Spell check has really done nothing but teach us that we don't have to bother to proofread anything. The people that typed up that IEP are educated and should KNOW how to spell. Typos are understandable but it take 2 extra minutes (at most!) to proofread! I don't expect teachers to be perfect, but I do expect papers they send home to be spelled correctly. How are they going to properly grade my child's papers if they either can't spell themselves, or won't bother to proofread? I don't know which it is, laziness or ignorance. But either way, it makes me wonder how they are going to teach my kid something they can't or won't do themselves.

Just another thing with the whole spelling and grammar thing...
We were supposed to make t-shirts for our teacher's birthday. When our assistant teacher wrote a paper to tell us what to do, instead of t-shirts she wrote t-(left out the r). Would it kill you to use spell check?

The IEP one is bad. Our SE teachers have a peer review it before it is presented to the parents. Wow, I can't believe that one. They are a lot of work to complete, but that just sounds like laziness.
BTW, I double check eveything I send home because my spelling is far from the best. Luckily, they are only 7 and 8 year olds so they aren't asking me to spell big words.

Aha but that word may have very well passed a speel chick. Or maybe your assistant teacher was sending a message?
BTW I don't equate spelling with education. I stink at memorizing. Always have and always will. (same with numbers. I can tell you details of historic events but do NOT ask me the dates)! To me spelling is mostly memorizing not education (or smarts)!
Laziness is a whole nother story....(unless it's a TTF message board )

True Nanner. I had a brilliant friend in college and she had me proofread her papers. Her spelling was atrocious!! However, it does make one look stupid (not talking about stuff like TTF, but on prefessional papers etc). They are responsible to either proofread, spellcheck or have someone else do it. It's not that hard, really! And the ones teaching our kids to spell ought to put some effort into that (thanks, MST! ).

We've had papers sent home from school with spelling errors, the kind that get sent home to all 700 in the elem school - these are all approved by the assistant principal. Eeek! The IEPs are typed up by secretaries, not the teachers.
Another Pet Peeve - people who call looking for my husband yet won't say anything to me. Um, I told you you will never reach him during normal times, you either speak to me or get nowhere. Heck, just tell me you are a survey or you are calling from such and such co that we owe money to so I can just pay it!
BTW, there's a site www.whocalled.us and you can see who all these "unknown callers" are if their number appears on your caller ID. This morning's instance proved to be someone calling wanting money for a political campaign. Apparently I, as his wife, couldn't handle THAT call.
Better yet - when they ask for his work or cell number to call him. Yeah, ok, you won't tell me who YOU are, but you want me to give you that info? Hahahaha, you are funny....

Wow, your secretaries do the IEP's. That sounds weird as they aren't around the kid. If the teacher gives them the goals and all the other info for it she might as well do it herself. Our SE teachers do them here.

A new pet peeve. When you call a business about your account and the service rep speaks broken English and speaks so fast there is not a chance you will understand her. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with one today and boy was I peeved. I could have been playing toontown all that time. Helen

What Loopy said!
Had a caller for over a week that kept asking to speak to Kev. Told them repeatedly,"He is at work and doesn't get home til after 4:30,can I help you?." "No we will call back again."Finally, I just wigged out on them. Silly me thought this would discourage them from calling back at all but noooooooo, they call back when he is home (phew) so I asked who it was. Come to find out it was Sears wanting him to extend a warranty on an item we threw out years ago! Had they just told me that to begin with it all could have been handled with the first call...geeeeez.Of course, we are "screeners" now so I don't have to deal with that anymore . Telemarketers are my NO. 1 pet peeve.
As far as TT goes...patiently waiting for gags and have a toon that arrives after you give you the "you stink" when you beat them to the counter. Not a peeve per se but sure could do without having to teach manners while playing .

My husband signed up for a "win a car" in the mall and then began traveling for work. Well, this was a vacation selling scheme. They called every day for weeks on end, except weekends. "No my husband isn't here." was my standard reply. So finally, one day I said, "Well, when you find him can you tell him to sign the darn divorce papers." They said, "you don't know where is he is?" I said with a crying voice, "You see he ran off with this blonde bimbo blah blah blah." They never called back. Of course there wasn't a blonde bimbo- unless it was me??? But man it stopped them calling. This was before the rule if you ask them not to call, they can't or you can sue them for harassment.

Just a couple of cute bad grammar stories. My co-worker complaining about a customer aimed me 'This guy is a moran!'. Oh yeah! That rocks.
Then, I got a customer review that said (this is my boss's favorite) - 'Sandra is REALY smart!'
I like the call asking for my husband, since I don't actually have one!!

Isn't there a video/audio of a radio station DJ answering a telemarketer's call and then accusing the telemarker of having a relationship and something to do with the person who was called's death (DJ acted like a policeman)? I remember laughing so hard when that was sent to me.
