Crane Coordination
View Single PostView Single Post

MissPoutyFace :
It is surprising how much easier it is to coordinate the crane effort when you know the toons.

I saw the above and it intrigued me. My craning is getting there, but I see this (potentially) as a big piece missing in my craning puzzle.
If I'm on the crane, I'm just doing my best to hit the CFO (which is not a given sometimes Smile ). Now I will try to pull safes away from CFO if they are too close. But I get the feeling that it may be more than that.

So my question is: How do you coordinate during the crane round? As always, any help is, greatly, appreicated.

Seems my only ability with a crane is smooshing goons with safes! I use to blame my computer but my son cranes just fine on it. I just stand there and look pretty. Rolling Eyes

Standing and looking pretty is a skill set we need to have in all the CFOs!!

When I'm with my bud, I can keep an eye on what he is doing. In the beginning, if he is going for the smushed goons, then I arrange my safes so they are ready for a quick grab. Then, I grab the goons and he arranges safes (we've never really talked about it just what we do when we are on the same side).

As it progresses, if one of us clearly has better access to safes then we let the other get goons and assist to stun. I may just hold a safe in readiness. Then, as soon as the CFO is stunned, I can swoop in with my safe and get one really good hit. So, you just keep an eye on your partner and see what they are going to be able to do and back them up. Like last night, I could check out the other side as well and saw they had goons ready so I got my safe ready.

Of course, there are times when you are just throwing anything that comes to hand as well Smile

I also think making sure you pass some safes to others around you if you have a lot. Last night I had at least 5 safes surrounding Miss Molly so she tossed two over to GG and one over to the other toon next to her.

I'm not sure it matters so much if you know the toons as just watching what they have and if they can actually hit the guy. Note: If Nanner is craning and in view all is negated. I also watch what the others have and if they are hitting with safes and I can grab a goon, then I'll get the goon and hold it til he stops being dizzy so hopefully I can make him dizzy again right away. Usually happens when the bigger ones come out. Of course as Miss P said sometimes you just have to do anything to make it as was the case last night in our TTF CFO. Mr. Green

Just a question. I haven't been here long enough to know this, but why does everyone pick on Nanner at the crane??? Does she just do it wrong? I'm sorry for asking this, but I want to know why!

I usually just "Go with the flow." Razz That's pretty much my motto. If a few toons are holding goons, I pick up a crane and get ready to hit the CFO or pick up a goon if no one has yet and just hit him. Confused I can adapt to different ways, but that's the usual way for me. Very Happy

I suppose you are just sure who's going to crane and who's going to stomp . . . which toon was it that said "May I operate the crane?" There's also a degree of confidence with some toons that you know. For example, if I'd been in the 5 uber CFO with the group you were with last night, I would know that I could comfortably sit back and paint my nails. With the group that I was with, I threw one goon then got off the crane because Super Zowie Doggenwoof wanted to barricade Ramona in with safes. Then I got back on and tried to drop a safe on SZDs head. Now, if Nanner had been in the room . . .

I am CFO challenged. I stink at craning, and I stink even worse at stomping. I absolutely cannot manage to stomp on those turkeys without getting hit by the light--worse than a deer caught in the headlights. If I ever manage to get Rose to RB50 (got about 10 more to go, which means about 20 attempts if my survival rates in there hold true), I am NEVER setting foot in that place again with Rose! The VP I'd do for fun. The CJ is a total blast and I'll do it repeatedly for the invasions, but the CFO? AUGH!!!

I did notice on one TTF CFO run a week or two ago, that we split up something like 5 toons in one CFO and 4 toons in the other. I was thinking at the time , WE ARE SO DEAD! I can't survive 8 man CFOs let alone 4-5 man! Might as well take a pair of pliers and yank all my toon's teeth out right now rather than prolong the inevitable! (We didn't die, a testament to the awesome skill of toons other than myself in there.) BUT then we get to the TTF CJ run later on, there's something like 10 toons, and a couple bow out rather than splitting it up 5 and 5. I'm thinking what on earth is up with this? They're insane enough that they'll do a 4-man CFO, but not a 5-man CJ, which is a breeze by comparison? Well, at least I think it would be--haven't actually tried a 5-man CJ--I think it'd be fun--might take a long time, but it'd be eminently survivable.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks the CFO is unbearably hard and the CJ is easy by comparison? If anything, the CJ's a little monotonous. I'm used to being the odd duck out, but surely someone else out there loves the CJ and hates the CFO? Laughing

Terrkan- Can I tell you that I think you are insane about the CJ? I barely ever survive CJ. I will 4 man CFO any day. I am a much better stomper than craner. I think I can fight Nanner for worst craner title.

That's what I love about Nanner, I've got no clue how well/poorly she plays. I'm always too busy laughing to notice Mr. Green

Are you nuts!!!!!! Just what color jellybeans have you been eating? Shocked
IMHO, CFO is by far the most fun of the boss battles. It also has the best rewards - unites can be used anywhere/anytime. I do know where you're coming from, Ricky was closing in on 50 and was still convinced 8 toons were required to beat the CFO . . . then I went to CCG crane training. It took several times and I think the new faster computer helped as well. Trust me, once you get the hang of it if you're on an 8 toon load you'll be getting out your nail polish when it's time for cranes Razz . More than 6 is too many, 4 is a nice number for CFO.

As for 5-toon CJ, ummmmm . . . depends on the suits. 5 BFs, long and tedious. 5 BWs and I'm going to be using more than a few of those unites from CFO. I have serious gavel issues . . .

Yes, definitely nuts! And I hate jellybeans! Now, chocolate on the other hand is AWESOME.

Don't you think the CJ gavels are slower than the CFO's yellow-orange-red goons and more predictable? If you have a few toons tending to the cogs in the CJ, there's not too much junk flying around knocking you on your tail. I've read posts where some toons manage to dodge the flying paper--that it comes on a fairly predictable basis, and I've been working on that one recently without much success. I don't usually see it until it's too late. But apparently if you get that skill down, then you don't even bother stunning the cogs at all--everyone just dodges the paper and hits the pan instead--goes much faster. I aspire to do that someday. And maybe I'll succeed. But the CFO?? *choke, cough, gasp*
