It's been quite cold here in Michigan (low today was -3 with windchill!),
I thought this video would help cheer up everyone
that's living in the deep freeze...ENJOY!!
Yay, another Michigander! I really like that song. My daughter and I usually love to sing to it when it comes on the radio!
Thanks for posting!!
Yes!! There are a few of us around here...Michiganders that is. I actually play with my real life (RL) friend, who lives just a few miles from me. She's on this site also, Lady Petunia Purplepop.
I'm so ready for this winter stuff to be done and over with already...
That was a fun little "toon" to listen to... A classic... Thanks...
Yeah, I can relate too! Thought on Wednesday morning, (5:30am), 10 minutes would be good to "warm-up" my mini van... Was running behind and 15 minutes later, all windows were still frosted over... Tried to use my window cleaner and even THAT was frozen! It has alcohol in it... Not supposed to freeze! Brrrrrr... My temp reading in the van was -10... Not including wind chill. Even my rear defrost, after 15 minutes, left a frozen back window! After 25 minutes warming up, I decided I had to leave... And it still wasn't warmed up. Yep, the midwest has been having some chilly times!
I have a question for you car-know-how-people's.... My ex and I always had an arguement about temps outside and vehicles... I just finally gave in and said he is right... But I wonder... Does windchill play a factor in "how cold" a vehicle gets? He said that only flesh is effected by wind chill, machines cannot be. I thought wind-chill was based on flesh factor, but my vehicles did seem affected too... Just curious as to your input. Thx.
Wow! That is very scary.
A friend of a friend was just killed on New Year's Day here. They had an accident and one person had gotten out of the car to look at the damage. Another car then lost control and hit him, killing him. I can't imagine what it must have been like for some of the people in those vehicles having no control what so ever.
It is supposed to warm up in Ohio over the next few days - I'm counting on it!
And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, will be why I stay at HOME (if we will ever get a day like that).
Amen!! I remember when I was working (before son was born) at my federal jobs in the South (Atlanta and Dallas), they would tell us you can come in if you want, but you don't have to (when it would ice or snow slightly). Then they would recognize the "dedicated" workers who risked the weather and came into work. I would think to myself I don't make enough in this one day to pay for my car deductible and medical deductible if I ventured out on those streets where I KNEW other drivers (and myself) had no idea how to drive in that stuff. Not worth it.
Hi all- I can't really relate to the cold right now. The weather I can. I live in CA. I was watching (listening to) the news and heard the word "Blizzard" regarding my area. I have not heard the word blizzard about my area since I left northern NY.
I was surprised, to say the least.
I woke up to find my hammock pad flying away. What a rude way to wake up. I caught it.
Queen Thunderthud- yes windchill is based on how fast your skin would freeze if exposed to the elements by a specific time. Technically your ex is right. But it does effect things like metal, glass, liquid etc as it does hold temperatures or the lack there of.
Sandra- I'm sorry to hear about your friend. What a terrible way to start the new year.
Sandra, I'm also sorry to hear about your friend. That must have been awful!! I was thinking that someone's going to get hurt while watching that video with the cars all sliding all around. You can hear one lady say that her 3 kids are in the car...now what would be better? Would be a scary situation, for sure.
They hardly ever plow my mom's street, when I go down it, i have to put my 4X4 on. Now on the other hand, she does get leaf pick up!! Go figure that one out...
It's starting to heat up a little bit over here. It's probably in the 40's about now. All our 3 feet of snow is melting and all the water that has melted from that is taking place of the sidewalks!
That video of the cars sliding around- That is just terrible and so scary!
Wow! I just saw that video clip of the icy street.
I miss having a real winter with snow and clean air. But I don't miss the troubles it brings. Is it still allowed to throw salt on the streets in winter?
Hopefully it'll get warmer for ya soon! Where I live in California, the weather has been HORRIBLE the past two days and today. It's been pounding rain, and flooding all over the place. We didn't have any power at all yesterday, and were stuck at our house, because there was a 3 foot deep puddle at the end of our driveway. It's receded a bit so far, so we can leave our house, but the weater is incredible.
The sure-fire successful method for driving on that stuff is...

DON'T!
The best that can happen is you succeed in arriving at the destination frayed and frazzled, with the sense of overall relief that you're not still out there. We in Texas have the issue known as "Black Ice". It happens when the ground is frozen and it's warmer up high, so the rain freezes when it hits the ground. It's as slick as oil on glass. When we get that, it's a LOT like the clip above.
