OK this is very not TT related but I figured with all the smart geeks on here (this is a good thing btw) that one of you might be able to help. I need to make a short clip out of a home movie DVD but have no clue. Is there an EASY program out there to do this? Nothing fancy. Don't need voice overs or background music or anything. Just plain ol chopping and putting together. (or deleting what I don't want. Either way works) Would be nice if it was a free one but willing to spend a FEW bucks to get something.
Anyone?
Thank you thank you thank you.

A lot will depend on what format the file on your DVD is in. Do you have Windows Movie Maker on your puter? A lot of Windows Vista puters have it, and my XP came with it. If you've got Windows Movie Maker, then you've got decent editing software already, but whether it'll import your particular DVD file is another question. I'm guessing it'll import most file formats used by DVD video cams, but I honestly haven't tried doing that as of yet. If you do have Win Movie Maker and need help trying to import your file, holler!

My problem with that is I took a Vista machine and turned it back to XP. I clicked on that and it told me that my sound thingy wasn't able to work and it poofed away I'm sure it would have been fine to do what I needed to but............. UGGGG Darn Vista!!!! Hmmm wonder if I can downgrade it? Hold my breath?
Thanks for the try though!!!!!!!
Oh and my DVD is ummm whatever my camcorder is It's a little mini DVD disc. I think I can set it to various settings.

Take a look at this:
http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/products/dvd/Free-Video-Dub.htm
It's freeware that will let you edit stuff out. If, for some reason, it won't read your particular DVD, there is also freeware on the same site that will allow you to convert your DVD file to another format:
http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/avs-video-tools.htm
The freeware versions will leave a watermark on your video, and if the watermark bugs you, you can always buy the full version after trying the free one to see if it'll do what you want it to do (and just how hard it is to figure out how the heck to make the software do what you want it to do--that's always the worst part).
I like making videos, but I've always used Win Movie Maker. Hope you're able to get something to work for you!

Thanks! I was thinking I could always take the DVD to a siblings house and use their puter too.....or in the case of my brother just make him do it for me I'll check out the link first. Would rather be able to do it myself and have the finished product be a surprise. I'll tell you all what I'm doing it for later in my blog cuz I think it's very exciting!
