I started a new toon today and thought I'd fish as I went around and opened up each neighborhood on my map.
I fished on every street in every neighborhood including the main pond in each neighborhood (I think I may have skipped one between donald's dock and daisy's garden), 2 buckets each pond.
I also got 2 buckets from my estate.
I had a twig fishing rod only.
I was able to catch 31 species!!!
I didn't realize you could catch so many with just the twig.
I bought lots of stuff from Clarabelle, so I didn't loose any beans.
It was fun.
Guess I've "creatively" avoided housework yet again!!

I do try on a new toon to fish each pond with the twig. I had one toon friend that didn't fish until he got his gold rod. Then, he realized that some fish were actually EASIER to catch with the twig - ooops!!
One funny thing about my little black cat (now 73 laff), she needs 2 bottom feeders to get building radar for lawbots!!

31, wow. Thats, almost half of all the fish. I guess I should have tried that with my toons when they were babies in Toon Town Central. Oh, well whats done is done. However, thanks for your help! I'll try this if I decide to re-make a toon.

It seemed to me like a while ago they made more fish available to the twig rod. I know before I could only catch the real basic fish like star fish, balloon fish, catfish, dogfish, etc.
It feels like only recently have they opened more fish to lower poles.
But maybe thats just me?

There have always been the same number of fish available with the twig rod, I think it's 38 (but don't quote me on that - I do know it's 30-something). I think most of the ultra-rares are available on twig. If not most, at least many - I was surprised to see how many! I had one toon I wanted to stay with each lower rods until she caught all available fish, but I gave up on that - mostly because I hate fishing!

I'm not a huge fishing fan. I only do it when I don't have any beans in the bank. Having said that, it does seem strange that most of the rare fish are catchable with the twig rod because then it's harder to catch them with better rods (kind of ironic).
