Last night's TT update
View Single PostView Single Post

Last night Disney's TT had an update, today I cannot stay connected for more than 5-10 minutes at a time. It does not matter what I am doing, building, mint, standing in PG, fishing, I just freeze then get dropped. It does not matter whether I am in a busy district like NR or in one of the very quietest ones either. So, like a buffoon, I contact Disney through Live chat support.....what was I thinking?!!! They have NEVER helped me in the past, why did I think they would/could help me now? Here is a snippet from our charming convo a few minutes ago:

GREGORY:I'm sorry, perhaps you can explain in detail what is happening. I'm not getting any bug reports at the moment.
KELLY: I have been playing TT for a couple months again, no problems with connectivity. Last night there was a TT update. Since then I cannot stay connected to TT for more than 5 minutes or so. No matter what I'm doing. No matter if I am in a busy district or a very slow district. I just suddenly freeze then it says either: Trying to connect to TT servers or it says: Internet connection to TT has been lost, please try again. Something like that
KELLY:There have been no changes made to any of my computers, modem, etc. the only change was TT's update
GREGORY:There are some issues with the new Toontown update and we are currently looking into your problem. All players will receive this fix in an upcoming patch that will be automatically downloaded and installed when released.
KELLY: which will be when?
GREGORY:I don't have a time line.
KELLY:I just sent another report to you also.
GREGORY:I appreciate that, but I am still not receiving any bug reports at the moment. Can I help you with anything else today?
KELLY: You have no timeline at all? Hours? Days? Weeks? A month? Nothing?
GREGORY:I cannot predict what I don't know. Certainly I would not expect days, weeks, and so on.
KELLY:Well when I stopped playing before it WAS months, so I am trying to get some idea here. I pay for 3 accounts and that does not seem like a good investment when I can't play on any of them.
GREGORY:I have no ideal. Like I said, they are working on a fix.
KELLY:Thank you, Disney is nothing if not consistant in their helpfulness......Have a great day, I feel very supported hope it was fulfilling for you as well.
SERVER:KELLY has closed the chat Session
GREGORY:Thank you for choosing Toontown Chat support, and have a Toon-erific day!

The one thing that really shocks me about that convo was that he admitted it was the update and did not tell me it was my computer or to update my drivers......he must be new there!

ROFL! I haven't been on at all today, but I have read about some other people having connection problems today. They will probably close tonight.

They are closed now. As for no bug reports...... I have sent in 2 this morning within 10 minutes of each other and they were not nice in tone.

If it was summer break it would be CRAZY with all of the toons posting about it being down on all web sites...Mutiny would be putting it mildly.

Was surprised at how quick they put out the release after giving it to Test. The issue noted by the May 1 release about looking at details was a big issue with BossHq.

May 1, 2008 [sv1.0.33.6]

*** KNOWN ISSUES ***

* Crash Alert! Currently if you click on a friend from your Friends List, then click on his or her Blue Arrow button (the button which shows additional information about your friend such as Gag levels, the District they are in etc), you will crash! Please refrain from checking your Friends' details this way. You can work around this by only clicking on the Nametag of a Toon (above his or her head) to check Toon details.

We are working hard on fixing this issue and will release the fix as soon as possible!

Bug fixes

* Fixed many crash causing bugs which occurred when your Toon teleported, or ran through tunnels.
* Fixed crash bug which occured while your Toon watched other Toons ride the Geyser in Acorn Acres.

I know we complain alot about it being down, but can you imagine what a headache it must be to have *issues* like people crashing out of the program for something as simple as watching some toons ride the Geyser? "Don't LOOK!"

they do a pretty good job overall...just wish they did their good jobs after 2 am CST Mr. Green

I think 2-3 things are factored into the new release besides getting a new name tag.

Devs wanted to roll out a new trial for "free toons" that allowed them access to all PG but didn't neccessarily allow all "free" players to engage in all the activities (earning suits, fighting the bosses etc..). That was something that was tested on test, but much smaller scale.

Devs are trying to "fix" access to busy districts/servers. They get tons of complaints about lag, getting stuck in the black transition screens etc... A common way that many players get into a "red" district is to scan your freinds list, finad a toon in a district and location you want to go to , then TP, sometimes to a "red district" or HQ that you can't otherwise TP from your map or schticker book.

Maybe they need to limit "free" toons from TP'ing into some areas or block access (such as free toons who friend TPing into HQ's or whatever)

I would think the developers might have a timeline to get more subscribers and offering expanded access trials before summer break. Increasing their subscriber base is a huge deal financially for Diz Online.

Anyway, it does force you to ask if a friend is in a district you want to go to now and ask if you can TP to them. In some odd sort of way, maybe it helps.

I don't think it is just a simple code update to provide new fonts for your toons names because alot of things seem to be rolled up into this update and probably much of it could not really be tested out.

Whatever this update was supposed to accomplish it is making the experience less enjoyable that the $10 per month I am paying for it.I end up TPing helping friends and getting stuck in some backwater district with no invasions or decent buildings and I get fedup and just log out and let the kids play instead Sad

That whole district limit thing really miffs me. The restriction is - or was - all on direct access. Yes, one can still get in by TP to their friend, so the only access after it's read is "privileged access - going to someone who's already there. Remember in the good ole days when there were no limits? I see no difference between then and now, except the first come first enter (unspokes) rule was in effect then. I remember gettin stuck tryin to get to a beanfest. The main difference then was... at least you could try.
