yeah..I'm back too BonnieD...oh well I guess it doesn't matter since I can't get rid of it anyway! I have had our IT guy working on it all morning and I even tried after he left....just not getting it I believe this virus is "brave sentry" and the fix is smitfraudfix.exe although I (we) have tried several times...just can't get it gone.
bummer

I'm littlewacky's son and she asked for help with this. It seems that this only affects internet explorer so I told her to scan and I also told her to use Mozilla Firefox. You can get Firefox from http://getfirefox.com IT WILL NOT REMOVE IE. I have tried this website in internet explorer so I think I have the virus now and I am doing a scan myself.
maybe symptoms of virus:
random freezes
Edit: I'm going though the HTML of the search page and searching for the ActiveX control now.
Edit: After a quick search I couldn't find anything. It seems that the site ya.ru is linked with a Russian search engine called yandex
Edit: | LadyZ : | | I use Firefox and got the bad site last night. I have not gotten it today on FF. So maybe there is a connection. Doctor Skids did some stuff earlier and will do more as soon as he is able after work. | You may have gotten redirected to the site but you would not get the virus becuase FF does not use ActiveX controls.
Edit: well it seems that the ActiveX control popup isn't coming up on my VM(Virtual Machine). I'm gonig to restart my VM and see what happens.
Edit: It seems that the virus is gone.

Sorry I sounded kind of curt in the last post. It was one of those "all heck breaks loose" moments here where the kids were falling apart and the hubby just getting home.
I meant to say thanks for looking into this!

Maybe some of you would like to try this site: WWW.SUPERAntispyware.com/ There is a free edition there that I have been told will not mess with you regular internet security and will work with vista, and that it should get rid of this virus. I tried it this afternoon to see if I had been reinfected. Good news, I was not! Plus it was very easy to use (even I could do it)!

Howdy. Sorry for all of this junk. I have cleaned this all up, along with all of my other stuff. Thinking of getting out of the website business soon, I simply do not have time for this stuff at all anymore. If I had this wouldn't have happened. Again my apologies.
Hope you all are all fixed up now.

I also highly recommend doing a deep scan of your entire computer if you fear you have been infected at all.

So color me confused here. Deep cleaning isn't getting rid of it? Or if my anti-virus program isn't showing it anymore then I'm fine? (Kaspersky)

I tried the site Brady advised. It seemed to clean up all but two files. A friend patiently walked me through manually deleting them. I still get the annoying yellow warning that says spyware is on my computer - but a desktop picture covered that up easily. Not sure yet what else needs to be done. I did have to delete my system restore file - it did not let me restore to an earlier date. But I no longer get the interrupts and fake crashes. It's a start at least.

Tired of that "Humany" lookin' Peach? what symptoms do you still have Nanner? if any...My work PC still has a small pop up on the task bar reminding me that I'm infected but I have cleaned the registry several times and don't seem to see anything except for the small pop up...I do have the color back on my desktop too. It seemed like it was prone to freezing anyway (crummy windows) so it's hard for me to tell imac YAY!

I had the Russian page appear from nowhere which I closed quickly. I had suspiscious files show up on Sophos which were quarantined and I have now deleted. Laptop is still working fine so I am hoping all is well and back to normal.

I took backups of it in it's fixed state, should be easier to restore if it happens again.
