HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!! I bet there will be a ton of picnics today and no one on TT. Wishing all those overseas who can´t be with their families a great day.
Any special family traditions? Who´s got the best fireworks?

I wanna know what that picture is Nanner! Happy 4th everyone! As far as best places to see fireworks I'd have to say Yorktown as that is where the British Army surrendered to George Washington securing our independence. I actually attempted to take my kids there today thinking we could play at the beach. They already had it blocked off and people were parking already to wait for the fireworks and this was like 11:30 this morning. Wouldn't let us down to the beach area grrr. No I won't be going there this year, but I have a few times in the past and there is nothing quite like watching them in such a historic place.
Oh LOL nevermind I see it down there as I'm replying but I couldn't just viewing it. I knew you loved mice!!

It was a safe night for us... for the most part. My dad only tried to blow his legs off once when he accidently dropped firecrackers under his feet.

We have a uneventful day, Rained most of the day but it did stop about 30 minutes before the show. The kids went into the backyard and watched, were lucky enough to live close to the spot where they set them off. I love it cause I don't have to get stuck in traffic coming home! Hope everyone had a great one!!!

I saw amazing fireworks once in Ottawa for Canada Day, and of course the International Fireworks Contest in Vancouver is unbelievable. Down here in Mexico though they seem to have a very limited imagination same fireworks for everything, only the quantity varies. They once lit up a very large sign for New Years in sparklers, and spelled it Happy New Yaer! Nice bright letters, Hee hee.
It rained all afternoon and night here too.

HAPPY 232nd Birthday, USA!!!
I hope you all had a safe and happy Independence Day! Well, here's me as usual, lol, a day late and a dollar short. I didn't have TIME to get on my pc at all yesterday and couldn't by the nights end.
Spent Thursday day and evening at the VFW preparing for the 4th's festivities and back there by 6am (Yeah... ME.... SIX a.m.!) Got the tents, kids games, tables, grills and stuff set up and the picnic started at 11am. Cooked and served Burgers, brats, hotdogs, pork chops and corn on the cob from 11 to 4, socializing in between, of course. My 13 and 10 year old daughter's ran the kid's games and handed out prizes from 11 to 2 and got to enjoy the live band for 2 hours.
We had to leave early (at 4) because we had a dad in the neighborhood who was organizing a "bike parade" with the kids. They all decked out in red, white and blue, along with their decorated bikes. I think the final count was 25 riders and they circled 10 blocks, twice, whooping and hollering Happy Independence Day/Happy 4th of July along the way. The dad had hooked up his son's MP3 player to a ghetto blaster, which was strapped on his motorized scooter, blaring songs about the USA. He had painted his coveralls in stars and stripes, sporting a stars and stripes top hat and had a 6 foot long flag on a pole, also attached to said scooter. It was a sight to see, for sure! The kids had buckets of candy to throw to any well wishers who came out to see them. They sure seemed to have a blast!
The rest of the evening was spent house-hopping between 3 neighbors homes, (all right by each other, starting with the house next to mine), who were all having parties. As dusk came about, the competition of "who has the best fireworks" began, between those 3 houses. (An annual battle on our block). Sure, the police showed up... Many times... But once the cities fireworks started, they didn't come back. Once they legalized the fountain fireworks here in MN, it opened the door for all the "other stuff." People just drive over to Wisconsin and get ALL the other stuff. Personally, I don't, but sure don't mind the 2 hour display the neighbors put on.
So, we continued to house-hop. all had bonfires going, 2 had pools, one had a hot tub and volleyball going, horse shoes and ladder golf... It was sure fun, but as always, I was so tuckered out from the volunteering at the VFW the night before and day of the 4th, I only last until about midnight.
... And that is pretty much what we do every year... Except for the bike parade... That was a new thing this year.
