There is a fault line there. I was told there is a fault comparable to San Andreas in Missouri. Does it go N/S or E/W? I don't know? That is called the New Madrid Fault. It runs N/S. Last big one was in 1811, 1812. The Mississippi River ran backwards and created Reel Foot Lake(sp). That quake was felt all the way to Boston.
