You did exactly what I would have done. If anyone engages the final set of cogs, I'm going to join them just to be safe. I'll try to stall as long as possible, but that may or may not work if there's another toon who's not willing to wait. I might say "wait a minute" and "let's catch the next one," but that doesn't always work either. I'm always hoping that it's someone who just doesn't know any better, rather than someone being a jerk on purpose (and sometimes you can tell which it is). I've been in that position (way too many times) of needing the extra bux/merits/etc. and toons wouldn't wait for the next invasion.
